Miley Cyrus is mourning Dolly Parton while keeping the most personal parts of their relationship away from the public eye.
The 33-year-old singer shared a tribute for her godmother after the country legend’s death at age 80. Rather than recounting specific private memories, Cyrus explained that those moments would remain between them.

“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram.
Miley Cyrus’s Dolly Parton tribute also reflected on how Cyrus believed Parton would want her to handle the loss. Music, she said, would remain part of that process.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have,” Cyrus continued.
One of their final conversations also centered on their shared connection to music. Cyrus revealed that she and her godmother had discussed “music and metamorphosis” before Parton’s death.
Cyrus and Parton shared a close bond away from their public appearances together, but Cyrus made clear that she intends to protect the details of that relationship.
“I will always love her and want to make her proud,” she wrote.
Cyrus ended her message by acknowledging the loss felt by Parton’s relatives, friends and fans.
“My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
