Kate Gosselin’s back online after a long hiatus, and not everyone is thrilled. The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star became known for running a tight ship, being a super strict mom to their set of sextuplets and set of twins, and constantly nitpicking her then-husband, Jon Gosselin.
After years of living quietly in North Carolina and working as a nurse, Kate’s stepped back into the spotlight 15 years after the show ended. Now, people think she’s doing it for one reason: cash.
Her return to social media didn’t get a very warm welcome.
Kate Gosselin didn’t earn much praise when she arrived on TikTok
Kate quietly joined TikTok on July 13 with the username @kate.gosselin. She started out by mostly sharing clips of her German shepherds.
But, once she showed her face in a video on July 28, things escalated. “Know that there’s going to be a lot of dogs on it, and kids. But mostly dogs and me,” she said, explaining her new channel and calling it her “dog mom era.”
That’s when the comment section lit up and the hate rolled in.
“Someone really needs money,” one person commented. Another wrote, “I don’t know why you would think coming on here is a good idea,” with a skull emoji. Someone else said, “We were not wondering… but thanks anyway.” Kate clapped back, replying, “You’re very welcome!”
Fans have speculated that money could be behind her comeback. A source said last year that Kate was lonely, broke, and possibly going to sell her North Carolina home. Her absence hasn’t been without controversy, as she faced shocking allegations from one of her sons.
After the backlash, she posted a more vulnerable video. It was a makeup-free “get ready with me” where she said she wished she could go back and change her younger self. One viewer wrote that they had “mixed feelings” over the years but now saw “tremendous humility and growth.” Kate replied, “Oh my gosh, your honesty nearly made me cry. Yes, I am learning and growing every day.”
She shared that she’s now working in pediatric home care and helps care for a medically fragile child. Her adult kids are even watching reruns of the old show with their friends, which she called “cute.”
And when a fan commented, “I’d rather watch you on my TV,” Kate teased, “Well … your wish may come true at some point soon.”
Kate getting back onto our screens isn’t a far-fetched threat. She’s had a long run on reality TV.
After she and Jon got a divorce in 2009, their show was renamed to just Kate Plus 8 before it was cancelled. Over the years, she also appeared on Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Apprentice, Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, and the short-lived dating series Kate Plus Date in 2019.
Jon & Kate Plus 8 streams on HBO Max and several other platforms.
