Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got their latest creative inspiration very close to home. Their new Netflix documentary is based on videos their son Archie, 6, enjoyed during lockdown.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new Netflix project is inspired by son Prince Archie
While most of our kids are watching Bluey, things are a bit more cultured in the Markle-Sussex household. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are launching a new documentary based on son Archie’s fave videos – performances by a Ugandan dance troupe. The Masaka Kids is a group formed of talented youngsters – many of whom are orphans. The family is said to have enjoyed watching the viral videos on YouTube during the pandemic.
Now, Meghan and Harry have chosen to bring the dance troupe to Netflix. The pair’s media company, Archewell Productions, announced on August 11 that it is bringing a documentary titled “Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within” to the platform. The film is based on a short directed by David Vieira Lopez and Moses Bwayo. Meghan and Harry’s production company then developed it into a full-length feature.
A spokesperson for the pair told The Telegraph: “When the Duke and Duchess were made aware of the short, they quickly recognised the kids from their viral videos and fell in love with their deeper stories. Archewell Productions then partnered with seasoned producer Geeta Gandbhir to harness the film’s style and tone and ultimately finish the film as you see it today.”
It was also announced that the rather divisive “With Love, Meghan” will return for a second season. There’s even a Christmas special in the works, titled With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, which will air in December. These latest updates have quashed rumors that the couple’s estimated $100 million deal with Netflix wouldn’t be renewed in September.
