Dedication Night on Dancing with the Stars felt extra emotional, but apparently, Alix Earle fully broke down before she took the stage. The TikTok star performed a contemporary dance with Val Chmerkovskiy, and they were joined by her 12-year-old sister, Izabel. The routine received one of the highest scores of the night, but backstage, Alix flooded the room with tears.
Alix Earle performed a “vulnerable” dance on Dancing with the Stars
Before hitting the stage for Week 5 of DWTS Season 34, Alix went on Instagram and explained why she chose her sister for the Dedication Night dance. She said that Izabel helped bring their family closer together during an otherwise really difficult time.
“I wanted to dedicate the dance to her because when I was her age … it was a really hard time for me in my life. My parents had split up, and I was just emotional, angsty, all the things,” Alix explained. “And when Izabel was born … Suddenly that became more important than the other emotions I was feeling and dealing with.”
With all of those emotions, everything came rushing to Alix’s head right before the dance. She said she was backstage, just crying all over her little sister. We imagine the DWTS makeup team had to work overtime that night.
“It was so special to me,” she said. “I was crying, holding her before we started dancing, so I couldn’t really see where I was going the first 15 seconds.”
Clearly, it worked out. The couple wound up getting 35, tying for the second-highest score of the night. Ultimately, Alix credited her pro partner for helping her channel all of these emotions into a successful routine.
“I give Val so much credit because I think if we hadn’t gotten as close as we had as partners, it would’ve been probably a little bit more difficult for me to open up in that way because it’s a little bit more of a vulnerable side for me and something I don’t really share often,” Alix shared.
Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+.
