Tom Cruise may be one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, but not everyone is in awe of him. Tim Curry worked with Tom back in the 1980s. And he hasn’t held back on his impressions of his fellow actor since. In his new memoir, he revealed he “was never blown away by his talent”.
Tim Curry was not “starstruck” to be working with Tom Cruise
Tim worked with Tom on the 1985 flick Legend. The actors didn’t exactly hit it off on the set.
Writing in his new memoir Vagabond, released earlier this month, Tim said he wasn’t impressed by Tom. He wrote: “Before we met on the set of Legend, I had seen Risky Business with Tom cast perfectly as the cute, innocent young rebel. And when we finally appeared in a film together, he was very nice and easy to be around — but he’s also quite unique, and not a person I fully understood. We never had any issues, but I cannot say I felt the appeal.”
Tim also revealed that the Mission Impossible star used a method acting approach to his role. He said: “He was very into fully embodying his role, and I believe even requested to sleep on the snow set because he wanted to feel at home there.”
Still, even if he wasn’t won over by Tom’s talent, the British actor admits he was a good colleague. He concludes: “There’s not much I can say definitively about him, since we didn’t get to know each other very well, but at the end of the day I found him to be a very thoughtful, considerate colleague — which I appreciated.”
One person Tim did seem to be more impressed with was Princess Diana. Last month he spoke about the pair’s unexpected interaction at an event.
