Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars has been batting a thousand with its theme nights. Along with traditional favorites like Disney Night and Dedication Night, this season also offered us One-Hit Wonder Night and TikTok Night. Even Dedication Night presented a new element – having the honorees take part in the performance. It made the routines even more heartfelt.
However, tonight may be the theme night that takes the cake. It’s Wicked Night, baby! The story of the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba takes place before their story in The Wizard of Oz. Plus, we have another special guest judge in the ballroom. Fittingly, Jon M. Chu, who directed both the films Wicked and Wicked: For Good, tried his hand at scoring the competitors. Last time, much to everyone’s surprise, no one was eliminated. So, last week’s scores and votes will be combined with tonight’s voting and scores. Now, 10 couples are still in pursuit of the Mirrorball.
What happened in Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Episode 6?
The competition is getting tighter, and we are now halfway through the season. Viewers were treated to several rumbas, contemporary, and jazz routines. A quickstep, foxtrot, and Argentine Tango also filled up our dance card. And all the DWTS contestants leveled up in their performances.
The opening professional number, set to a medley of No One Mourns the Wicked, Defying Gravity, For Good, Thank Goodness, Dancing Through Life, and What Is This Feeling? was superb. Judge Derek Hough and hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough also hit the floor. It was magical and sensational! Christopher Scott, who also choreographed the movies, choreographed the mesmerizing performance.
And, DWTS fans saw a never-before-seen clip from Wicked: For Good. Plus, Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, and Michelle Yeoh sent video messages, discussing the story of Elphaba and Glinda. The film Wicked: For Good hits theaters on November 21.
Who was eliminated in Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Episode 6?

Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold were eliminated in Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Episode 6!
The bottom three contestants were Andy Richter and Emma Slater, Dylan Efron and his partner, Daniella Karagach, and Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold. In the end, Scott and Rylee were sent home. The duo danced a contemporary routine to The Wizard And I. In this performance, Scott portrayed the Wizard, while Rylee played Elphaba. While Scott’s enthusiasm was apparent, his technique suffered a bit in this dance.
“I wish some of the transitions were a little cleaner, but you swept me away to Oz,” Jon told the Pentatonix star. “I love the determination and energy,” judge Bruno Tonioli remarked. He noted that Scott missed some passes in the routine. Rylee and Scott’s dance earned them 28 out of 40 points, bringing their two-week total to 58 out of 80. They landed in ninth place on the leaderboard.
Both Daniella and Emma were shocked when Scott was eliminated. When asked how he felt about his DWTS experience, Scott said, “It’s meant everything. I’m so incredibly grateful for this. Rylee is my favorite person ever.” He added, “I had so much fun.”
Rylee told her partner, “You did amazing this season, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner.” And I love you.” It’s a bit sad that Scott left tonight because he is obsessed with Wicked. I still wonder if bringing back the judges’ save would be a good idea. Just saying!
Who got the top score of the night in Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Episode 6?
Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas had the highest score in Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Episode 6.
Once again, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt and her partner, Mark Ballas, topped the leaderboard. And their quickstep to Popular earned the first 10s of Season 34. The couple pulled out all the stops for this dance.
The routine began in Glinda’s room, with some actual set pieces from the movie. The performance was infused with humor and personality. It was one of my favorite performances of the night, and the judges felt the same way.
“It was the perfect blend of technical prowess and just fun and art. I was lost in it,” Jon stated. “I forgot I was judging anything.” Bruno remarked, “That was insane! It was Glinda gone ballistic!” And Carrie Ann Inaba called the performance “slightly unhinged, but in all the right way.”
The duo earned three 10s, bringing their judges’ scores to 39 out of 40 points. Their total for both weeks was 72 out of 80 points. Whitney and Mark’s quickstep once again showed why they are one of the frontrunners in this competition.
What were the judge’s scores in DWTS Season 34 Episode 6?
- Whitney and Mark (Quickstep) – 72 points
- Robert and Witney (Jazz) – 71 points
- Jordan and Ezra (Rumba) – 71 points
- Alix and Val (Jazz) – 70 points
- Dylan and Daniella (Rumba) – 68 points
- Elaine and Alan (Contemporary) – 66 points
- Danielle and Pasha (Argentine tango) – 65 points
- Jen and Jan (Foxtrot) – 61 points
- Scott and Rylee (Contemporary) – 58 points
- Andy and Emma (Jazz) – 51 points
The judges handed out higher scores tonight, and it was well-deserved. Everyone seemed to improve, so the performances were incredible. I loved conservationist Robert Irwin’s jazz routine with Witney Carson, set to Dancing Through Life. Their routine featured dancing on books, which is no easy feat. It was charming, fun, and energetic. “I think you need to change out of your hiking boots for Broadway shoes, my man,” Derek stated. “You were meant to be onstage.”
It would be Wicked not to mention actress Elaine Hendrix and her partner, Alan Bersten’s contemporary routine, set to Defying Gravity. The judges’ scores last week disappointed the duo. They received positive comments, but lower than expected scores.
In this performance, Elaine performed a trust fall and was elegant and powerful at the same time. Meanwhile, she is dancing with a titanium joint in her foot. At the end of the routine, she embodied Elphaba, towering high above Alan near the rafters, with her black skirt billowing. It was fabulous!
Final thoughts on Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Episode 6
Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel’s dark and brooding Argentine tango was a real showstopper. The routine, set to No Good Deed, featured tons of complicated lifts. She earned her best scores of the season, but landed in seventh place because of last week’s scores.
In addition, Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa’s rumba was sensual, yet kept a friendly vibe in keeping with the theme of the song, For Good. Carrie Ann raved, “It was perfection.”
And, Andy upped his game with a fun and bubbly jazz routine that showed that he is improving. Still, Emma and Andy landed at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 51 out of 80 for both weeks.
Overall, I think it’s safe to say that we have all changed for the better after Wicked Night. It was one of the best theme nights ever! Next week, stay tuned for spooky Halloween Night, complete with a Dance Monster-thon. And former DWTS pro and Mirrorball champ Cheryl Burke will be wielding a paddle as a guest judge.
Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
