A new Real Housewives series is supposedly in the works! Housewives fans will either rejoice or recoil at the news. Currently, there are seven series on Bravo’s rotation. Real Housewives of Orange County and Real Housewives of Potomac are on and rocking right now. Season 4 of Real Housewives of Dallas premieres this week, on Wednesday, actually. Sometime this year fans will be able to watch Season 10 (!!) of Real Housewives of New Jersey. In 2020, we’ll get new seasons of Real Housewives of Atlanta, Real Housewives of New York (in spite of losing Bethenny Frankel) and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (in spite of losing Lisa Vanderpump).
That was a lot to write! There are seven series in the Housewives canon! Imagine if Real Housewives of D.C. and Real Housewives of Miami were still on. I would literally get nothing done. Even though my life revolves around watching Housewives, there are simply too many shows to keep up with. Now, my time and attention will become even more limited since the location of this new series hits home!
Who could forget DeShawn Snow?! (~Crickets~). For those drawing a blank, DeShawn starred on Season 1 of Real Housewives of Atlanta. In the season that started one of Bravo’s greatest series, we meet a young, tough Linnethia Leakes as she navigates the budding stages of a tragic friendship with Kim Zolciak-Biermann. I remember, way back when, actually being captivated by Kim. My eyes had never witnessed such a character on-screen. Who was this wannabe songstress with the Barbie wigs, and cartons of Parliament Lites in the freezer? Kim may have intrigued me, but I’ll argue forever that the reason Season 1 of RHOA took off was because of DeShawn.
At the time, DeShawn was married to Eric Snow, who has since retired from the NBA. DeShawn came on RHOA to promote her philanthropy. In the episode “Bring on the Bling” (go watch it on whatever streaming service you can) DeShawn organizes a charity auction in the hopes of raising $1 million for underprivileged kids in Atlanta. She invited every single person who lived in Atlanta, passed out invites at the mall, and went on a morning show to promote the house-party. DeShawn’s party invite did not include a door fee or a required minimum bid for the auction. This proved to be a huge mistake. DeShawn basically invited a bunch of randoms to come over for free food and drink, bereft of any intention to bid in the auction. The party was an epic failure. DeShawn did not return for another season, and has since kept a pretty low profile. That is until now!
Season 9 of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was a SNOOZE. I never want to hear the term “puppygate” again. The women made the entire season about dog drama when everything else in their lives was going to crap. Dorit Kemsley and Erika Girardi were both dealing with financial issues, yet they were barely talked about. Denise Richards and Camille Grammer lost homes in a serious fire. Yet, we only got one episode dedicated to the real-life tragedy. Lisa Rinna’s daughter struggled with an eating disorder and we saw one awkward dinner. Kyle Richards had zero problems other than self-induced anxiety. However, we saw none of these things manifest in a real way on RHOBH.
Instead we were treated to Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave’s accountability scheming, a Lisa Vanderpump-less season, and lots of costume changes with zero substance. Here’s hoping these women learn from watching this season that they need to let the Beverly Hills façade come down a bit for the sake of interesting content. It doesn’t seem that will happen though.
Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Teresa Guidice does not mince words. She clearly meant it when she said she wanted to “cut the cancer out” of her life. If you need a refresher, Teresa sat down with her cousins, Kathy Wakile and Rosie Peirri, at an empty restaurant during Season 7 of RHONJ to tell them she was done with having any sort of relationship. The moment was hard to watch, considering these weren’t fabricated friendships, but actual fam-bly (trademark Caroline Manzo) members.
I always thought Rosie should have been the full-time cast member because Kathy was way too normal for the show. Regardless, I enjoyed watching Kathy play peacemaker and make cannoli kits. Kathy came on RHONJ in a full-time capacity during Season 3. Things went as well as they could when you’re related to Teresa, until the Season 4 reunion. At the reunion, the cousins threw around awful remarks about each other’s parents. From there, Kathy was downgraded to “Friend of the Housewives.” Soon after Teresa accused her of not reaching out during her time in jail and officially “cut the cancer out.”
Kelly Dodd’s love life is a rollercoaster. The Real Housewives of Orange County star has been actively discussing her romantic relationships on social media this month. To catch you up – Kelly and Dr. Brian Reagan, the plastic surgeon we saw recently on RHOC, broke up in August. She claims that he was just using her for publicity because women in the OC don’t regularly go to the doc for a face tune and that he cheated.
Kelly also wowed us with her musical skills on Instagram, dedicating Queen’s “Another one bites the dust” to Brian. She also informed us that she’s seeing someone new. In what will become a classic Kelly move, she confirmed her latest relationship by tagging new beau, Fox News correspondent, Rick Leventhal in an Instagram post that was about her breakup with Brian. Is your head spinning yet? While this is all definitely entertaining, breaking up with Kelly sounds legitimately exhausting.
Shannon Beador shows a lot for the cameras on Real Housewives of Orange County. She’s been open about some of the most uncomfortable moments, (i.e. her marital problems with dead eyes David Beador and their subsequent divorce, gaining and now losing weight, and the struggle for financial independence). This season, however, we’re set to see a different side of Shannon as she navigates dating life.
The lemon-enthusiast and mom of three has also been able to share more of her family life on RHOC than co-star TamraJudge, for instance. She still appears to have a tumultuous relationship with her daughter and ex-husband Simon Barney. But other than being beautiful and athletic, we still don’t know much about Shannon’s daughters. Sophie is 18, and twins Stella and Adeline are 15. We do, unfortunately, know that the three young women have witnessed their parents process their divorce, both on and off-camera.
Say what you will about Real Housewives of Orange County, but these women put it all out there. I may be the only one who watched the premiere, but from the first moment it was made clear that these women are going to show up for work by bringing their most uncomfortable issues on camera. This is more than we can say about the women of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
At the center of the premiere episode, was all of the drama rotating throughout Gina Kirschenheiter’s life. The details about her DUI do not make her look good. Mom parties need not include roadies and getting behind the wheel. Needless to say, Gina’s had a rough go and it looks like we’ll see a lot of it. It also looks like we’ll see a lot of Shannon Beador making out and doing squats. One thing that felt off about the premiere, however, was that there was no Vicki Gunvalson. This left me feeling as though it’s truly the end of an era – I mean we didn’t even get one Woohoo at all!
The premiere of Real Housewives of Orange County is right here and viewers can expect to see a lot of changes in Season 14. Some of us, only me are still reeling from the fact that Vicki Gunvalson – OG of the OC – is featured as a friend of the housewives. Along with that, there’s the addition of Braunwyn Windham-Burke – a name so long and luxurious she sounds like a character in a Jackie Collins novel. At least we’ll get to watch Shannon Beador and Kelly Dodd on the prowl. We will, however, have to put up with Gina Kirschenheiter and Emily Simpson again.
This IS MY OPINION! (trademark Tamra Judge) but I really could have done without Emily and Gina. I feel like they were asked back because Evolution (the production company) wants to prove they made a solid casting decision. Either way, wimp Shane Simpson will, unfortunately, be gracing our screens with his presence again. His wife Emily has been on the interview round to promote RHOC and she’s not holding back.
