2014 was a year for law breaking, court cases, tax issues, and bankruptcies from our favorite reality TV stars.
Below, we’ll update you on who owes what, whose divorce is a mess, who is suing, who is being sued, and who’s going to prison! In addition to adding several new cases to the rosters of law-dabbling reality stars, some stars continued to battle existing cases – such as Jacqueline Laurita‘s and Sonja Morgan‘s bankruptcies.
Meanwhile other stars finally resolved long-standing issues. Undoubtedly the biggest legal drama of the year was Teresa Giudice finally facing a judge and being sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to 4 counts of fraud, which all began way back in 2009 when the Real Housewives Of New Jersey star filed for bankruptcy for an incredible $13 million dollars of debt!
Apparently, the Judge who is presiding over Kelly Hyland’s lawsuit against Abby Lee Miller has never actually watched Dance Moms. Or maybe she did, and while she knows that Abby is nothing but hateful and cruel to her poor, sweet students (Maddie excepted, of course), Her Honor knows that the mothers featured on the Lifetime hit are every bit as crazy and ridiculous.
Whatever the case (no pun intended!), Kelly’s allegations of defamation and the infliction of emotional distress against Abby have been booted from her original complaint. The suit alleging $5 million in damages is still going forward, but it is now focusing on the remainder of Kelly’s claims, including negligence and breach of contract. I can’t wait to see how this plays out in court, y’all!
I really, really got so heated when I was reading up on Chloe Lukasiak’s departure from Dance Moms. It was bad enough when I thought the horrible Abby Lee Miller called her “washed out,” but to learn that Lifetime had dubbed over what she really said makes me absolutely sick. Shame on these adults (all of them–the moms aren’t innocent either!) for putting these girls in this situation. No wonder Christi went off on Abby the way she did. Sure, she’s certainly done it before with less instigation, but still. Abby’s lucky, Christi didn’t poke her in the eye, just for good measure. I probably would have…
Thankfully, Christi and Chloe’s contract is up, and they are leaving the show. While I will certainly miss Chloe’s sweet nature and tremendous talent, but she needs to get away from that horrific dance teacher. Hey, if we’re lucky, Lifetime will get rid of their moneymaker and not renew the show. Am I the only one who wouldn’t miss it? Not surprisingly, Christi is still getting her digs in on the Twitterverse!
Following an extremely volatile season finale of Dance Moms, Abby is now facing another battle! Paige Hyland, who appeared on the show for 4 seasons, and left last season after her mother Kelly Hyland got in an altercation with Abby has now accused her former dance teacher of assault and filed a lawsuit against Abby Lee Miller!
In a suit filed on Tuesday in L.A. Superior Court, Paige attests that “Defendant Miller intentionally engaged in conduct that caused Plaintiff Paige Hyland to reasonably believe that she was about to be touched or harmed in an offensive manner.”
Paige’s complaint states that she “feared she would be physically injured because she had observed Miller physically batter other people on the show including physically pushing [Paige’s mother] Kelly Hyland’s face, pinching another student until she bled and violently grabbing another student by the arm.”
Things are getting crazier and crazier on Dance Moms, but the craziest yet may just be that Abby Lee Miller and Co. are possibly staging fake dance competitions for the show!
We’ve heard reports for years, that after the first season, the ALDC attended rigged competitions or ‘invitationals’ which many dance companies sign up for simply to showcase their talents on a hit TV show. Of course the qualification being that ALDC gets a lot of the limelight – and usually the big wins! That likely had a lot to do with legality of filming minors in a public space.
But last night’s episode featured really obvious displays of fakery. For instance, we noticed the audience – usually packed with dance families and contestants – was all but empty! Only the first couple of rows had people sitting in them.
Those expecting a return of Paige and Brooke for the rest of the season will unfortunately be disappointed, because Kelly vs. Abby was all too real and the girls are officially done with the show. Paige confirmed it on twitter.
After the episode aired Kellyfiled a $5 million dollar lawsuit against Abby and the producers alleging that Abby physically intimidated her and she only slapped her in self defense. In documents pertaining to the suit, uncovered by The Hollywood Reporter, more information about Kelly, Paige, and Brooke's experiences on the show are revealed. And yikes – this show is even worse than we imagined!
It was the bump-it pull of a Lifetime. Literally. Last week's Dance Moms erupted in a volcano of crazy and violence when Kelly Hyland pulled Abby Lee Miller's hair after being provoked with some insane teeth chomping on the part of the world's most hateful dance instructor! Not only that, but Melissa totally lied to her fellow moms when she claimed to not know that daughter Maddie would be competing in a duet with one of the finalists from Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition. And, of course, these mothers just can't get over themselves or Melissa's betrayal. I love that they pretend they wouldn't do the same for their kids to get ahead…
Making sure we all know just what a liar Melissa is, Christi recently tweeted, "FYI: in the car, on the way to the comp in the Bronx, Melissa said to me & Kelly: ur gonna hate me today. She KNEW about the duet," later commenting to a follower, "We didn't even know Kalani was in New York City, let alone dressed and ready for the duet. We found out on way to stage."
The Dance Moms star claims Abby is a bully who attacked her and she is seeking $5 million dollars is damages! The two erupted into a fight on this week's episode which culminated with Abby calling the cops on Kelly. Abby has since obtained a no-contact order.
Upon seeing how everything played out, Kelly is striking back by suing Abby and the producers for assault, defamation, and breach of contract.
