It’s official, Gloria Govan and Matt Barnes have broken up.
Following the cancellation of their wedding last year which was followed by Matt’s arrest for domestic violence (the charges were eventually dropped), the Basketball Wives LA stars have decided to end their relationship and engagement.
Matt confirms the split in a statement released to the LA Times. “I’d like to address the rumors surrounding mine and Gloria’s relationship,” Matt’s statement read. “We have reached the difficult decision of ending our relationship and will be going our separate ways at this time. We will work together to raise our sons and wish each other only the best.”
Matt and Gloria have two kids together — 2-year-old twins Carter Kelly and Isiah Michael. The LA Times also adds that it’s unclear on whether the former couple will be dividing their assets, which includes their Palos Verdes home.
There were signs that this breakup was coming as just weeks ago Gloria admitted her relationship was not perfect, even revealing the two had been in couple’s counseling.
And just last week, a fan tweeted to Matt that he should marry Gloria or else someone else will. Matt responded: “He can have her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Yikes.
Gloria has yet to comment on the split though she did retweet this on Saturday: “If someone is dumb enough to walk away, be smart enough to let them go. Your destiny is never tied to anyone who leaves you.”
A new episode of Basketball Wives LA airs tonight on VH1 at 8/7c.

UPDATE – Gloria is now confirming the breakup via her twitter page. She tweeted: “I’m sure you guys are hearing a ton of buzz about Matt and Me breaking up, sorry to say… its true!!!” She later added, “But the most important thing is focusing on my kids and continuing to have a good relationship with their father, thanks for your support!!!”

You’re correct when you say no one is perfect, we all fall short, but GG brought this on herself! Period. She was rude, nasty and disrespectful to the women in Miami, who tried to warn her of the realities of being with bb players. She wasn’t having it. Instead of taking what they were telling her and keeping that iinfo in the back of her mind, she said they were mean, jealous, old bitter women, jealous of what she and Matt “had”. And let’s not forget she told Royce she would NEVER be a wifey. She put Royce down for being a dancer for two bb teams. Well it has been proven that Royce is also educated. She DID NOT get caught up in a cash for grades scandal, like GG. Both she and her sister, claim to be soooo educated, but have you heard them speak, especially Laura? All bad. They only got where they are because they are light skin and have “good hair”. This should be a lesson to men, stop picking women based on appearances, ie, color of their complexion and grade of hair. Look beyond that. Look for what’s on the inside also. GG is/was so uppity and nasty to everyone. She also must think she’s Layla or something, because she’s always talking about effing someone up. She sent those texts to Malaysia and backed way down when Malaysia and her sister met with her and Laura to talk. Those girls from the LBC would have stomped GG and Laura. That said, IMO, GG brought all of this on herself.
Wow I back up everything lady love said she could not have written it better. (on 2nd thought) I could have only thing I would add I dont wish heartbreak on anyone and regaurdless of how bad a relationship maybe we have all stayed because of the love we have for our husbands and the good times but even if its mutual or gloria descion alone I hurt im sure both of them are hurting right now in,addition to that their breaking up publicly. Im quite aware of how it feels staying in,a marrige/relationship because we think about what the few 100s of peopke we know is going to think and say and the haters that will be happy I stayed way too long because of that reason. I refused to give others that satisfaction, yet I was even more unhappy. I wish them both the best and is praying for strenth the 2 however it will be great for u guys to work it out however your relationship will continue to have problems,while living in sin. #50 Betty – you must now watch the show if you can’t understand why people are being so “mean” to Go-Di-Glo (Gold Digging Gloria). Sounds like having a bunch of rugrats out of wedlock is a sensitive subject for you.
It was very sad the way she always talked down to Royce as if having an engagement ring somehow made her better. I think the lack of sympathy comes from the fact that Gloria came off and continues to come off as judgmental and mean spirited.
Sadder still was watching her self-degrade by begging for her man’s credit card in exchange for sex-on-call. Yuck!
Hopefully this will be a humbling experience for her and an opportunity to learn not to judge others so harshly.

Okay, First of all, Basketball Wives Miami was way better then this LA one as far as Entertainment, but they are both pretty stupid. At least the ladies from Miami look nice for the show. These LA girls look broke down half of the time (with the exception of Malaysia) There are like only 2 basketball wives on the show, which is more than Miami has. Now that this story is out, there is actually no point in watching Gloria and her man on the show since we now know for sure that they are broken up, as if we’re going to be upset about that. Matt can do better because Gloria is not all that good looking and she’s whack. And why is Gloria acting so bold on the LA season? She sure as hek wasn’t acting like that in Miami when Evelyn was going to scratch her face off. BTW why is her sister such a mess? like does Gloria giver any financial help? How can her sister be shacked up in an apartment with her kids and a bunch of other people (so the show says) and Gloria be staying at that large house? Why does her sister have so many kids and no man in her life. She needs to get it together. Um and do any of these girls actually have a job, especially Gloria’s sister who needs one, or is their job just acting foolish on national television. Just sayin.

No surprise…it would have been better had they actually gone through with the engagemnet and made it official but Matt & Gloria wanted to make it seem that everyone was jealous of them and that they had so many haters. Relationships are tough, but had Gloria only taken in what some of the ladies said in Miami, and figure the rest out herself. Things could have been different. i feel like she brought this onto herself. Maybe motherhood will be better for her without Matt as her husband…
