Oh Amber Portwood, even in jail she continues to make headlines over and over and over – well you get the point!
The latest is a report by TMZ, which states the real reason the Teen Mom star was evicted from her Indiana home last month was because she was scamming the government. Which definitely makes sense as money couldn’t have been the reason, since MTV pays Amber A LOT.
See Amber, 21, was living in a subsidized apartment courtesy of the state’s “Low Income Rental Housing Tax Credit Program.” In the lease agreement, Amber claimed she made $10,000 a year, except she earned a lot more, as in $280,000 in the year 2010 alone.
Sources reveal Amber’s little white lie was the reason for her eviction as her MTV income obviously made her ineligible for the apartment.
The good news for Amber is she won’t need to find a new apartment anytime soon as she has been finally accepted into a drug program.
If you recall, Amber was given the option last month of either doing five years in prison, or going to a court ordered rehab program for drug possession and a probation violation. For once in her life, Amber made the right decision by choosing rehab over hard time.
Amber was back in court yesterday, after being officially accepted into Sister 2 Sister Ministries, a live-in halfway house for women exiting jail.
The Herald Bulletin reports that while Amber had hoped she could live with her grandparents before entering the program, the judge decided against it. “I understand you’ve been in jail for awhile, and you’re frustrated,” Judge David Happe said. “But the last thing we want to do is release you and have you commit another offense.”
So for now, Amber remains in jail as she is scheduled to be evaluated by the Sister 2 Sister Ministries sometime early next week. The judge stated that the amount of time Amber spends in the program will be based on how well she does. He also added that Amber will be able to come and go as she pleases, as long as staff knows where she is. She will also have a 10 p.m. curfew.
While doing the drug program, Amber will undergo daily screenings, fulfill treatment obligations, and attend drug court each week.
The judge made it clear that if Amber fails the program, she will serve five years in prison, no questions asked. Yikes. Good luck to Amber, here’s to hoping she can finally clean up her act and be there for 2-year-old daughter Leah.

$280k for getting preggers as a teen, laying in bed all day doing nothing but acting a fool. Her house is always looking like a mess, the child is basically roaming around the house just looking lost and she is getting paid to do that when folks that have worked years paid taxes and lost their jobs or homes hell both are barely making it on unemployment still looking for a job! What about this is backwards? I mean damn

Just glad this awful mother is away from her daughter. She is a trash with a capital T, who thinks she is a some Billy Bad*ss who can’t be touched. She has learned nothing while in jail I’m sure. She will screw up again, and land in jail within 6 months!
The caseworker for Amber should be sued. She knew damn well how much money Amber was making when the MTV cameras followed them around looking at housing. And she signed Amber right up for a low income place. Sue, Sue, Sue.
Why would Amber think she would not get caught lying to the government. She’s in the public eye. As for everyone saying dr. Drew’s fault for glorifying I don’t think that was his intention. If anything you really have to blame the media for all the attention and the fans. Then it goes back to them and makes them think they are celebrities. If these kids were smart they should take the opportunity to save the money they are making so they can put themselves through college and have for the future for themselves and their child. But that would make it too easy so they will struggle mentally and financially and the sad part so will their children. Use your heads!

What about Kailyn on Teen Mom 2? Isn’t she living off the government as well? Granted she seems to be more ambitious than Amber since she has a job and going to school but isn’t she living in government housing?
@10 I was just going to say the same thing….Kailyn is also living in low income housing for $50 bucks a month! How do they not take her teen mom salary into account which is way more than I make a year.
Kudos to a Judge that is actually trying to stop the train wreck that is Amber by keeping her on a tight leash so she might have a chance to get better. If she messes up again after this she truly does deserve whatever she gets. Her poor kid living with that loser Gary (Mr. Stud in the tabloids) they should have let a good family adopt that poor kid.
I would love to see a Teen Mom show when the kids are about 14yrs old ..Bintley, Jace, Etc….would love to see how their parents keep them from becoming Teen moms/dads
ohgirl – you’re right! I wondered that too. It’s disgusting that MTV is paying asinine amounts of money to have the girls on tv. But then MTV must ask them to “play poor” for the cameras? Yet another reason I’ve lost all respect for Dr. Drew.

People are going to jail for this and have even being placed on Wanted internet government sites.
I think it is MTV allowing them to contribute to their hardship storyline.

Her rent should now be pro-rated for each and every month she stayed in that apartment for fifty bucks while MY hard earned taxpayer money paid the rest for her to live there. After which, her humungo MTV pay check should be garnished for this amount — and put back into the government’s treasury (or, better yet, my own damn pocket!).

I don’t think MTV actually pays her that much. When it came out how much she made in 2010, I’m sure a significant chunk of that was from magazine and website interviews. Maybe even 100,000 alone from that. She is one of the more controversial and fascinating teen mom characters from both shows.
I’m not sure if I read this or just someone else making a comment about this but these teen mom’s don’t have access to the money they make on teen mom until the show is completely over for them.
As far as Kailyn goes, she’s getting assistance from a non-profit where the money is donated from hard working people such as yourselves. So she’s directly scamming people, while Amber is scamming the people and the government.
Pretty sure she will have to repay that amount back. The government is going to say oh well we made a misake by giving her the money, they want the money back.
Yesiree bob, they are all cashing in getting government rental help, foodstamps, medicaid (Remember Chelsea who had wisdom teeth pulled and medicaid paid for it and her father, Randy is a dentist). Also, how many have student loans? Kailyn, Catelynn, Tyler, Jenelle, anyone else? Most never repay the “loans”. I remember watching the Rae Caruth (NFL former player and present killer in jail) trail and hearing one of his “strippers” say on the stand she got her “boobs” done with her tuition check. Yes, really! Stiffing the government (hence us the taxpayers) is a multi-billion dollar business. Medicaid alone is stiffed for 60 billion a year in fraud – government sees little to none of that paid back. So these teen moms use those kids as annuities. MTV sucks when it comes to this particular show. Why would anyone be surprised at the depths of fraud Slammer Amber will stoop to. Sure government paid for her Rehab. Now it’s paying for her high carb diet in prison. What a godawful business this teen pregnancy crap is……and it is a business on the part of the majority of these little pieces of crap. Shut down that sick show.

Amber is in trouble for gov fraud but even tho i really like her Kailyn is doing the same, & in one episode she asked her bf Jordan if he would basically think less of her if she got assistance… And Chelsea the wisdom teeth thing her dads a dang dentist he could afford a seperate house for her a house for himself and a cabin & vehicles he could of paid for
the teeth. (Instead of medicaid). So how much money do they actually make? If amber made 280 grand. Geeezz and im sure besides drugs it went to shopping sprees for her since she actually thinks shes some famous star!!!
