It’s not easy being Teen Mom‘s Amber Portwood. And it’s about to get a lot harder. TMZ reports that Amber has pleaded guilty for her most recent December 19 arrest (she was caught with a bunch of prescription pills that did not belong to her). Amber plead to one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of probation violation. Before you think she will get off Lohan or Paris Hilton style, it turns out the agreement would still require Amber spend up to 5 years in prison.
That’s far, far away from the reality television lifestyle Amber has gotten used to. In order to avoid jail, Amber can instead go to rehab under one condition: if she fails a drug test, she will immediately be sent back to prison. Given her failure at meeting the terms of her previous probation, it’s possible Amber may flunk out of that program as well.
Amber, who’s been having a tough time behind bars and was even put on suicide watch, would do best to consider rehab and stay out of prison. She may even want to re-consider her recent statements that the show that made her a household name, Teen Mom, was “exploiting” her and that she wanted to leave the show. At this point, a new contract with the show would be her best option. I think she could do a spin-off with Dr. Drew, Amber Goes To Rehab.
There’s at least one not totally depressing news piece about Amber this week, Starcasm reports she’s not getting evicted of the house she doesn’t live in, because she’s in jail. Funny how that one worked out. Another hearing will be scheduled to determine how much money Amber owes her former landlord.
Amber’s plea bargain for her drug possession charges will go before a judge on February 6.

I can’t help but feel sad for all these girls. It’s bad enough what has happened to them but to have it all play out in a public arena can’t be easy. Hopefully she does what’s best for her daughtef
She most likely won’t serve the 5 years, she’ll choose rehab and hopefully she’ll manage to stay clean.
I know lots of people enjoy hating on this girl, but I truly hope she gets her anger in check and that she turns her life around. She’s still young and it is possible, despite what the naysayers may think.
Oh Amber, Amber, Amber.
I hope she spent her time in jail reflecting on her life, her bad choices, her laziness etc. Go to rehab, clean up, get a GED and move on with life.
I don’t want to hate on her. I just hope she’s able to turn her life around for Leah’s sake. I think in Amber’s case, she really is struggling with depression or bipolar, so I’m sure it is more of a struggle for her, but she needs to take responsibility for her actions.
Wow, this really shows how having money makes a difference in cases like this. If she were a true celebrity with millions to fight the charges, she would have never been sentenced to 5 years. I really hope she can turn things around.
My heart goes out to this young girl. I hope to God she gets the help she needs.
Amazing how Lohan has done far worse things yet serves hours in jail, but this girl is sentenced to 5 yrs. Hopefully the rehab stint will do her some good and she can stay clean, and do something positive with her life.
No one is hating on her by telling the truth. She has serious issues and needs to get it together. I hope she makes major changes in her life at least for her daughter’s sake.
I’ve never seen this show. What is it about? Young girls that have gotten themselves pregnant? Why would anyone want to watch that? They sound pretty low class to me. You have to be pregnant out of wedlock to get on the show? EEEWWWWW
If for no other reason, Amber really needs to go somewhere and get her shit together for the sake of that adorable little girl of hers. Little Leah needs her mother. ALL CHILDREN DO.
So for that alone — I’m really rooting for her to get it all straightened out, so that she can finally be a full-time mom to that sweet little baby.

I can’t believe she would be sentenced to 5 years in prison, especially compared to serial probation violators like Lohan. But it indeed shows what big money lawyers can get you.
Amber and Jenelle are the products of their upbringings. It takes an unusually strong teenager (like Catelynn & Tyler) to rise above the horrors their parents exposed them to. The lack of caring, compassion and education results in a pattern of delinquent behavior that without intervention, will continue to manifest itself in each subsequent generation, I suggest mentorships be made available for adolescents who show signs of goihg down the wrong path.
As for Amber, 5 years in jail would do her good. She needs to lose that misplaced sense of entitlement and take some parenting classes. Leah really lost out on the paarent lottery.
Delinquent behaviour is a choice, period. Bad upbringing? Move one and get over it, make a choice not to end up in these kind of situations, it is all about choice and she can make a choice to change her life at any point in time instead of blaming her poor choices on her childhood. Time to take responsibility for her choices and deal with it, quit playing the victim.
Well said @daisygirl113. Many of these kids are brought up in loving, caring households and still act like low class jerks.
I have to agree with the most recent comments. No matter what environment you grew up in- at a certain point you have to be held accountable! I think she needs sometime behind bars! Sadly, sweet little Leah will pay the price for her mothers bad choices.
RE: The LiLo comparison— the difference is that LiLo lives in CA, more importantly in Los Angeles and would be sentenced to jail. Our LA jails are packed ! That’s why she and Paris H served a small fraction of their sentences. Amber, on the other hand, lives in Anderson, Indiana. They have much less crowded jails due to population. Furthermore, Portwood was sentenced to prison for felony charges. Had LiLo or Paris H been charged & convicted of felonies, the too would’ve been sentenced & served prison time

5 years seems a bit extreme, but hopefully that would scare her into getting her life together. If it doesn’t her issues are much deeper then I’m sure many of us would’ve guessed.
there are lots of kids, from far more disadvantaged backgrounds, serving more time for smaller offenses….amber deserves what she gets even if her daughter is adorable…she is hard headed and she hasn’t learned anything in the last three years
She will choose rehab (AGAIN) and whether it be a few days or a year, maybe two…she WILL fail a drug test or get in another fight. I have not one doubt Amber will serve the 5 years in jail/prison.
She has already had multiple chances and failed each one quickly and miserably. It’s the attitude, the anger, the denial of drug abuse, etc.
She deserves whatever she gets.

Amber was never in a good place to begin with. She had no desire to better herself or futher her education. She thought that being on television would bring her the world. She never seemed a good mother on any of the episodes and was always all about herself. Hoping that Gary and his mother will raise that little girl with some morals and educate her on the REAL world. Sounds as if this will be her new life, in and out of jail…… sad what this world is coming to…
