It’s Christmas in July! It’s everyone’s birthday! It’s a BRAND NEW 90 Day Fiance spinoff, coming to our TV screens in the (hopefully) not too distant future!
Given the ratings gold that 90 Day Fiance has become for TLC over the past year, the network recently announced yet another spinoff in the works. 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way will feature American men and women who fall in love with partners from distant lands, then travel to their home countries to begin their married lives abroad.
Matt Sharp of Sharp Entertainment (90 Day Fiance’s production company) notes that we’ve seen glimpses of this scenario play out in some couples’ stories throughout past seasons. For example, Nicole and Azan ditched their K1 visa dreams, planning instead to wed in Morocco when camels fly. Paul and Karine, who will be back next week on 90 Day Fiance Before The 90 Days, also plan to wed in Brazil.
In Touch Weekly reports that Sharp’s inspiration behind the series was the couples themselves. Many people in the casting process said, “I’m going to forego my lifestyle, my family, my culture, my country to be with this person.” And it wasn’t always the foreign-born citizen saying it.
One might assume that the stereotypical “they’re just in it for a green card” criticism that many of the foreign partners face will be turned entirely on its head in this new series. As Americans navigate other countries’ visa processes, cultural challenges, and family scrutiny, it will be interesting to see this dynamic shift.

Sharp maintains that production never casts couples by matching them up; they want to find couples who are already in the process of getting married. “Everyone we feature on the show, they found themselves organically,” he says, adding that casting primarily sources immigration attorneys to find potential couples willing to film their journey.
Speaking of journeys, we’re coming to the very end of six couples’ tonight! The two-hour 90 Day Fiance Happily Ever After Couples Tell All (part two) airs at 8 Eastern/7 Central, followed by a one-hour special highlighting Nicole and Azan’s disastrous march to the altar…or not.
