2015 American Idol XIV Grand Finale

I have a confession. I love American Idol. In 13 years, I haven’t ever missed an episode, and it’s one of the few shows I watch the night it airs. Not live, mind you, because I need the power to fast forward. I constantly try to fast forward the commercials if I watch a show live. The struggle is real.

On Wednesday, I was pleasantly surprised when Nick Fradiani was named the winner of American Idol 14. Quentin Alexander was my favorite contestant this season. After he was eliminated, I was rooting for Nick, but I thought Clark Beckham had it in the bag.

“Everybody was saying I was kind of the underdog, and I think that’s true,” said Nick. He added that expected Clark or Jax to win. “Nobody had me pegged as the winner. I wasn’t doing anything that was really impressing people. Then something clicked the last six weeks or so. I got hot at the right time.” Check out pictures from the Season 14 finale of American Idol below.

Reality TV Stars Lisa Vanderpump

Our favorite reality TV stars cannot get enough of the spotlight during their regularly scheduled time slots, so they take to social media to share even more of their lives with us. And we would not have it any other way. Here’s a roundup of some of our favorite snapshots and selfies from this week. Enjoy.

Above: Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump shared, “Thank you to all who came to our LVP Sangria tasting! Bottle signing was fun but puppy sex was better!”

Below you will find pictures from Daisy Lewellyn, Val Chmerkovskiy, NeNe Leakes, Draya Michele, Lilly Ghalichi, Jacqueline Laurita, and more.

So, while I love reality television, I am so far behind on actual "respected" entertainment.  Case in point? I am still trying to catch up on the movies that were up for Oscars in February.  I highly recommend Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook.  I know, I know, you've probably already seen them!

That said, last night, I finally watched D'Jango Unchained.  Amazing, but I can't stomach Tarantino's caricatures of violence.  I also can't handle Jamie Foxx.  He's brilliant.  He's talented.  He made me sob in the theater when I saw Ray.  He is Juilliard trained.  And then he became a rapper.  In my head, he went backwards.

His spiral continues, apparently.  Now, Jamie is allegedly dating Cristy Rice from season one of Real Housewives of Miami.  The man won an Oscar for gosh's sake.  He needs to call up Charlize Theron or Halle Berry (except they're taken…no biggie).  Whatever. Nothing shocks me anymore.  Maybe Cristy is nicer than she appeared on RHOM.  Maybe?

17-year-old Aaron Kelly saw his luck run out Wednesday night as he was the latest hopeful to be eliminated from American Idol.

Aaron’s rendition of “Fly Me to the Moon” failed to impress the home viewers after a tough Frank Sinatra-themed week for the five remaining Idols. “I’ve had a great time. I’ve had a blast,” said a shocked Aaron upon hearing the news of his elimination.

Rounding up with bottom two with Aaron was surprisingly Michael Lynche, despite receiving praise from the judges for his performance of “The Way You Look Tonight.” Actor and singer Jamie Foxx will be on the show next week to mentor the 4 remaining finalists.

In other Idol news, ratings continue to dip for the show, in what some are calling the worst season ever. The ratings have dropped a drastic 20% in just the last three weeks.

That is not the worst news however, as a new report shows Tuesday’s episode brought in the lowest ratings for the show since 2002. The Tuesday night show averaged 17.1 million viewers, compared to Dancing With The Stars which averaged 19.6 million viewers this week.

Some are wondering whether the departure of longtime host Paula Abdul and the pending exit of Simon Cowell, might be part of the reason for the ratings dip. What a lot of people seem to agree on however is that this season has a lackluster of contestants.

The reason I can’t bring myself to like Idol is simply because I feel the judges nitpick the contestants’ performances. And then we have the four judges giving very conflicting criticism to the contestants. I mean hello, are they all not watching the same performances? But that’s not all. The judges also seem to play favoritism, giving constant, sometimes undeserved, praises to their favorite contestants. Think Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynche this season. It seems these two were made to be the frontrunners very early on the season. So the question is why waste my time watching for 12 weeks if Crystal and Michael will likely be in the final 2?
