On last night’s season 9 finale of Flipping Out, it was the end of one era and the beginning of another. As Jeff Lewis and Gage Edward say goodbye to Zoila Chavez living with them, they make room for the new life who will be joining them all too soon. When Jeff and Gage see their daughter move on an ultrasound, that new era becomes more of a reality than ever.
Despite these emotional transitions, Jeff and the gang must still keep up their hustle. So they take a job with Real Housewives of Orange County star (and close friend of Jeff’s) Shannon Beador to decorate her new home. And her budget is HUGE!
Sadly, last week may have possibly held the only tender moment we’ll see on this season’s Flipping Out, as Jeff Lewis has officially lost his one remaining marble. With the stress of their Valley Vista remodel looming before them, the drama with Zoila Chavez behind them, and the promise of a new life joining them soon, Gage Edward and Jeff are at a crossroads. Instead of using his big boy coping strategies like therapist Dr. Donna suggested, Jeff instead opts for a full nuclear meltdown with a side of rage. At Gage, at architects, at ducks, at mailboxes. You name it! He’s on a tear.
Since Silent Matt has left, Gage has been picking up some major slack. But Jeff chooses to mercilessly rag on him in the car on their way to a job site anyway. In the back seat, Gage is at his breaking point as Jenni Pulos sits in the front seat awkwardly trying to diffuse the situation with a combination of whispery mantras and subtle side-eyes. Suddenly, we flash back to three days prior to see how they ended up in this pressure cooker of resentment.
After last week’s explosive ending on Flipping Out, Jeff Lewis will have to pick up the pieces of the rift he’s caused between longtime house manager Zoila Chavez and himself. But not before he places Zoila on a week long leave of absence and drags his own angry a$$ to therapy. All I have to say is: Lots of luck to ya, Dr. Donna!
We pick up with Jeff still screaming ultimatums into the phone at Zoila, who has fled the premises. You come backor you’re fired! But Zoila is not coming home before Jeff and Gage Edward leave for their trip, which makes Jeff a very, very mad boy. Jeff sees this entire situation as Zoila’s fault, but he does admit being scared and feeling abandoned. She’s never pushed the boundaries this far before. This is a whole new Zoila.
“You come back or you’re fired!” That’s the ultimatum Jeff Lewis barked into his phone during the final minutes of last night’s Flipping Out.
Believe it or not, Jeff is ready to fire beloved house manager and surrogate mom Zoila Chavez over a silly argument involving lunch orders. But before that happens, he throws her a birthday party and gives her a Prada handbag! The bipolar turn of events that follows includes Zoila not being grateful enough (at least, I think that’s what crawled up Jeff’s hiney hole) and Silent Matt proving himself “disloyal” in Jeff’s eyes. Not good for Jeff’s fragile ego, to say the least.
It’s another day and another opportunity to make design dreams come true on Flipping Out.
The team is ready to pitch Walter E. Smithe, a large furniture and design group in Chicago. Jeff Lewis is still (just a tad) angry because of his unceremonious firing from Living Spaces and he is feeling the pressure to land his next big gig. Gage Edward is just excited about the idea of heading out of town and seeing something besides the inside of their office.
Jenni Pulos has been #TeamJeff since the very beginning of Flipping Out, even when Jeff Lewis wasn’t necessarily, let’s say, the world’s easiest boss. Now that Jeff and his partner Gage Edward are preparing to welcome a baby girl (via surrogate) into their lives this fall, many are wondering just how they’ll do with the whole parenting gig. Jenni, however, has no doubt that they will rise to the occasion.
Jenni, mother to 3-year old Alianna, says that if how Jeff and Gage treat her own daughter is any indication, they will indeed be “incredible fathers,” although “different” in their parenting styles. “I think one may end up being more the disciplinarian, one may be a little more of the fun, but they both are amazing with Alianna, and she both loves them.”
Jeff Lewis is in over his head with his house, his clients, and his march toward fatherhood (which is approaching quickly). Meanwhile, Jenni Pulos is busy trying to make a buck by sitting on toilets. That, my friends, is the nutshell version of this week’s Flipping Out. But it takes a while to get there…so, let’s get started!
At Valley Vista, Jeff and Gage Edwards are led through the money pit they’ve regretfully purchased. Frank the contractor briefs them on structural, electrical, and – worst of all – water issues as the cha-ching, cha-ching sound rings endlessly in Jeff’s brain. This place is more than he bargained for and could possibly be, in his own words, the worst house he’s ever bought. Gage agrees.
With the good baby news behind them, the crew of Flipping Out needs to get back to work. That chrome and marble nursery ain’t gonna build itself! But Jeff Lewis faces a crossroads this week when he runs into trouble with a long time contractor. And Jenni Pulos is facing a crossroads of her own, but on a more personal matter. Oh, and Chaz Dean pokes his greasy head out of his hole again to get a little more camera time micromanage Jeff and Gage Edward.
Jeff and company are still living and working from Valley Vista, the never ending construction zone. Head contractor Frank explains some details of the demo, which Jeff appreciates. Frank has been Jeff’s MVP for the past 16 years. Gage thinks Frank is slow, but Jeff appreciates his ingenuity and creativity. A smart contractor who comes through is nothing to sneeze at. But lately, Frank’s wife Angelica has been running his business. This situation is no bueno for Jeff. He’d rather deal with Frank, and Frank alone.
