Luann de Lesseps Calls Carole Radziwill Out for Stirring Up Mischief; Understands Bethenny’s “Walls”

Stephen Daldry’s recent Tony nomination

Luann de Lesseps, the winner for Real Housewife of New York who remains cool under the duress of the Berkshires and Ramona Singer’s AOA party, might also be the only housewife to call out the real sh*t-stirrer of the week: Carole Radziwill, in her Bravo blog. Before getting to that, Luann reviews some of the highlights, and much of the awkwardness, that is RHONY. She shares her feelings on Bethenny Frankel mending fences with Heather Thomson after the tense/weird fish/meatball debacle at Dorinda Medley’s 50th birthday dinner. Luann confesses, “At Dorinda’s birthday dinner, I was glad to see Bethenny hug it out with Heather even if it wasn’t the sincerest move, it did calm Heather down. I understand why Bethenny would want to just chill out and enjoy the party rather than be mothered by Heather. Yet, kindness comes in many forms and Heather’s approach may irritate Bethenny, but she’s coming from a good place.” After professing being “in love at first sight” with Dorinda, Luann admits, “As for my toast being awkward, at least I had something nice to say about our hostess although I admit, not one of my best!”

Although Luann also relates to Ramona’s relief at daughter Avery coming home, she comments on the awkwardness of discussing divorce with one’s children – even grown children. “As for Ramona asking Avery ‘what should she do about Mario pursuing her again?’ — it felt awkward to me,” says Luann, “yet Avery showed a lot of maturity when she said that Ramona has to do what is best for her. I appreciated how Avery put the situation into perspective by saying that for over twenty years, her dad was a good husband and father but she’s at college, living her own life and whether or not her parents are together doesn’t really affect her as much as it would have if she were younger. I think Avery’s putting on a brave face for her mother.” Luann does astutely point out that “Ramona’s already taken over Mario’s closets so it’s not looking promising for him!”

Praising Bethenny for allowing a befuddled Sonja Morgan access to a Real Grownup Business Meeting, Luann explains why she thinks Bethenny’s “walls” are up with most of the other women this season: “Bethenny’s the real deal and I think you can see why she reaches her emotional limit when pushed too hard to confront the walls she puts up to protect herself. She’s got a lot going with her business and with her difficult family situation and it’s hard for her to accept advice from anyone. I get it.” What Luann doesn’t get, however, is why Bethenny has to be Ramona’s pimp even when they’re trying to have an impromptu girls’ dinner! “When Bethenny invited Ramona out for dinner, she didn’t realize that Ramona wanted beef, she just didn’t mean steak!” adding that Ramona “is uncomfortable with females one-on-one, even just talking about it grosses her out…I say, ‘to each her own.’”

Indeed, “to each their own” applies to Kristen Taekman as well, whose nail polish endeavor Luann hopes will be a “smashing success.” But the Countess (blessedly!) does call out Patient Zero, Carole, for stirring up pointless drama at the AOA party: “Did Carole really have to tell Kristen about what Bethenny said regarding her copyright for Pop of Color?” Luann questions, adding that “As for Kristen approaching Bethenny at the AOA party, there is a right time for this type of conversation and for Bethenny this wasn’t the time. Again, Bethenny can only take so much and I was just having a heartfelt conversation about the state of her emotions before Kristen interrupted us.” Luann reiterates that she and Bethenny are old friends (old coworkers, more like!) while Bethenny “barely knows Kristen. It’s going to take Bethenny some time before she engages with Kristen or Heather on any meaningful level.”

Luann closes with her signature “…until then, don’t be uncool!!” but I have to wonder if lines are already being drawn due to the fracture that occurs on the upcoming RHONY trip between Luann, Heather and Carole
