Simon Cowell to judge America's Got Talent

Simon Cowell will be taking over Howard Stern’s position as a judge on America’s Got Talent!

Simon, an executive producer for the show, who also judges Britain’s Got Talent (the UK version of AGT), shared that he and NBC had been “talking about” him joining the judges panel for years, but it never panned out. Now the timing seems right! “This year … everything worked so it was perfect.”

Howard is said to be leaving to focus on his radio show and other possible television opportunities.

Simon confirmed his new role to Entertainment Weekly. “I am really thrilled to be joining America’s Got Talent next season,” he said.

Simon’s years judging talent (or lack there of) on TV haven’t made him weary – he promises to bring his same unflinching honesty and no nonsense criticisms to America’s Got Talent. “I’m not going to lie to people when I think they’re hopeless,” he tells Us Weekly of his new role. “But no, of course I’m not going to be rude for the sake of being rude. That would be ridiculous. I’ll take it act by act.”

Simon has also served as a judge on both the American and British versions of The X Factor. The US version was canceled in 2013

Season 11 auditions for America’s Got Talent will begin soon and it’s unclear if judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, or Mel B will return, or host Nick Cannon
