Everyone remembers that big, yellow snake from the iconic Britney Spears performance of her song “Slave 4 U” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. That moment will live on in pop culture history forever and ever. That snake was (and still is) so enthralling that it was easy to forget that there were other outrageous elements of that performance. As a Britney superfan, I honestly had no idea that there were tigers on stage with the pop princess.
But, now we all have tigers on our mind thanks to the hit Netflix show Tiger King. And, yes, there’s a Tiger King connection to this performance. Ever since the show came out, fans are spotting the cast members (and heir tigers) in pop culture moments. Tiger King’s own Doc Antle, you know the one with 644,444 wives, is in the background of Britney’s performance. He is there keeping an eye on the tiger, of course.
In the documentary, Doc has grey hair and a beard, but it’s definitely him watching that tiger behind Britney Spears. Even though it’s hard to admit, 2001 was a while ago. Of course, his look has changed up a bi.
There was almost another Britney Spears VMA connection with Tiger King cast members on social media. However, it turned out to just be a false alarm.

Twitter user Evan Ross Katz shared photos of Britney, sitting in the audience at the award show right next to Carole Baskin. Well, it wasn’t actually Carole, but the woman sure does look like her. A lot like her.

Evan followed up his original tweet with a screenshot of an email exchange, confirming that the woman sitting with Britney was not actually Carole. Unfortunately.
