On last night’s episode of Married At First Sight, the couples are heading into their second week of marriage! Now that they are living together they must adjust to daily life. This episode they seek the advice of friends and family they haven’t seen since marrying their stranger spouses.
Woody has a sweet surprise for Amani. Christina struggles to find common ground with Henry. Brett takes a different approach to discuss finances. Miles addresses his need for some level of intimacy. Let’s get straight into the recap!
Olivia & Brett
Olivia meets with a friend to dish on all the details of her new marriage. Her girlfriend advises her to communicate because it’s a process merging two lives together. Meanwhile Brett meets with his friend and shares his annoyance about the counseling session with Pastor Calvin Roberson. Honestly, I think he is just annoyed that his wife makes more money than him. When he begins to insult his wife’s priorities, even his friends warns him to enjoy life while he can. Sigh! Get over it Brett! Instead of being so headstrong, maybe this is an opportunity to be open to do some things each of you value. You don’t have to go on expensive vacations every month, but maybe you can budget to do so once or twice a year. Brett is assuming that Olivia spends her money frivolously. Obviously that is not the case, if she pays all of her bills on time.
When the girls get together for drinks, Olivia shares her frustration about Brett’s recent comments about her ability to budget. Brett also gives his side of the story while enjoying pool with the guys. Woody is shocked that Brett isn’t able to compromise and come to grips with their finances. Olivia isn’t going to go from staying at 5 star hotels to 2 stars just to suit Brett. Sorry, that isn’t going to happen, buddy! Has he ever stayed at a five star hotel? There is a huge difference between the two.
Brett and Olivia sit down and work on a budget over dinner. Things actually go better, than I expected. Surprisingly, he is able to put away his condescending personality for one night. He isn’t insulting, he just reminds Olivia that if she puts more thought into her spending, she can find ways to save money or allocate it elsewhere. Had he phrased his opinion like this in the beginning, an argument could have been avoided. Olivia jokingly agrees to stop eating out so much, if Brett is willing to continue cooking for her.
Olivia and Brett’s manage to pull off their housewarming party without a hitch. All of their guests seem to be having a great time. Despite the good vibes, Olivia pulls one of her friends to the side to share her frustration. I’m not quite sure what to think about these two, at this point. They both are very different from one another. For some, that is a good thing, it’s not clear if that is the case for them. I believe the bomb will drop soon and it won’t be pretty.
Amani & Woody
Woody starts the weekend off right with flowers, mimosa’s and breakfast for Amani. I really hope this is the real Woody and not his TV persona. He is making it very easy for Amani to fall in love with him. So if his efforts are genuine, they have a real shot of making it as a married couple.
Amani and Woody have friends over for a housewarming. Both sides seem to mesh well and their chemistry is obvious to everyone. During a drinking game, we get to know a lot more about this couple’s past. Amani wins the game and wins a massage from her husband she will collect at a later date. Woody’s friends are surprised that he has taken to being a married man so easily. Honestly, from the picture his loved ones painted before the wedding, I’m surprised as well.
Amelia & Bennett
Bennett meets with his friend, Miranda at the park to discuss his new life as a married man. When he admits he is open to moving for Amelia, Miranda is shocked. She can’t understand how he is willing to uproot his entire life for someone he has only known for 2 weeks. Meanwhile, Amelia gushes about her feelings for Bennett with one of her friends as well.
In true Amelia and Bennett style, they decide to do something different than the other couples for their housewarming. Instead of tacos and games there is veggie lo mein and mural painting. Bennett pulls some of the guys to the side to sing his wife’s praises. Amelia’s best guy friend even gives his stamp of approval on Bennett. It’s only been two weeks, but they both have nothing but great things to say about one another. Could it be true love or infatuation? Only time will tell. But I have a feeling that if Amelia gets the news she has to move, we see some tension in that house. Bennett has been agreeable only because the thought hasn’t truly affected him yet.
Karen & Miles
Miles talks to Karen about improving her communication skills. Although he has been very patient, he would like to hear some words of affirmation, from time to time. Karen acknowledges that she can work on the way she shows affection. Miles is basically begging for a kiss or something to tell him that he isn’t totally in the friend zone. Good luck, she is as tight as a drum! Later, Karen reveals to Amelia that she and Miles finally had their first kiss. I guess all of Miles’ begging nudging worked.
Karen and Miles’ housewarming goes better than expected. He must have sent out an email prior to this party asking people to dare Karen to show affection. Literally every dare was something that made him feel closer to his wife. Shockingly, Karen didn’t seem opposed. She even sat on his lap and kissed him. These two have so much potential. Hopefully she will open up her heart before it’s too late. If Karen can show this level of comfort with her husband without a dare, Miles will be happy.
Christina and Henry
While Henry and Christina are discussing having a party for their friends, she becomes extremely frustrated. She feels like she solely has done everything for the party and hasn’t even received a thank you. When she explains her irritation, Henry dismisses her attitude to her being an impatient. Things go further downhill, as they begin to get personal about all of their issues. SMH… Honestly, I think the root of the issue is that Christina feels she has to take the lead on EVERYTHING. Sometimes a woman just wants to be the passenger on the ride of love.
Christina shares with the ladies that she fears she will always have to be the aggressor in her marriage. She even goes as far to call say it’s a deal breaker, if it continues. Amani suggests she help Henry to start feeling more comfortable being a leader. I don’t know how she will accomplish that when he won’t even look her in the eye. When Henry shares his issues with the guys, Woody believes Christina just wants him to “knock her socks off.” Yea, I don’t think that is quite the case. I just think she wants to feel wanted and like she actually in a relationship.
After some thought, Christina apologizes for blowing up the other night about the party. This could be genuine or just an attempt to keep the peace during their housewarming party. Is it just me, or does this feel like a housewarming party for roommates rather than a married couple? I’m sorry, but I don’t have any hope for this couple. But on the upside, Christina received some good insight about her husband from his friends. While Henry was pressured to stop wasting time and start living life. I think they both learned things throughout the night, they needed to hear. I don’t think it will make much difference, but hey one can dare to dream.
Once again Christina becomes frustrated when Henry fails to facilitate a simple conversation with her on camera. She even asks production for a list of questions to make it easier to talk to one another. Henry leaves the house to cool down after Christina tells him “you can get out of this.” Honestly, this is just sad. I have no idea why these two were matched and neither do they. The experts really dropped the ball on this one. Didn’t the experts interview Henry for hours???? If he displayed even a ¼ of awkwardness and aversion to speaking, why select him?
TELL US – WILL KAREN EVER TRULY OPEN UP TO MILES? IS BRETT INTIMIDATED BY OLIVIA’S SALARY? DO YOU THINK CHRISTINA HAS A RIGHT TO BE FRUSTRATED?
