Leah McSweeney Blasts Demi Lovato For Bashing A Small Business Because They Offered Sugar-Free Options

If you thought all of the incredibly absurd people were on Bravo, you would be mistaken because they’re everywhere. Fans of the network already know the featured talent isn’t exactly shy. Thanks to social media, it’s much easier for both celebrities and the general population to voice their opinions and share personal struggles. We are certainly not immune to the antics of famous people commenting on other famous people, and sometimes it bleeds over into the world of reality television.

Recently, we had a perfect example of this phenomena when performer Demi Lovato decided to denigrate, of all things, a frozen yogurt shop in Los Angeles. She felt some type of way at the sight of sugar free or reduced calorie options offered by the small business. Demi was triggered by what she called #dietculturevultures and Real Housewives of New York star Leah McSweeney was triggered by Demi. If you’ve never agreed with Leah before, you might want to sit down because there’s a first time for everything.

Obviously Leah has no issue in sharing her struggles. She’s also very opinionated, and considering her co-worker is Ramonacoaster Singer, she needs to be. Perhaps this is why Leah, along with the majority of people who can both read and eat food, were so irritated by Demi’s promotion to Food Police.

To review, Demi grabbed some frozen yogurt the other day and visited a shop called The Bigg Chill. Did Demi find a roach in her fro-yo? Did she receive a cup of melted dreams with no sprinkles? Nope. Demi pretty much put this shop on blast because she’s recovering from an eating disorder and the sugar free varieties were triggering to her. For the love of Dolly Parton and all things holy, please no one tell this woman about Skinnygirl products.

According to Page Six, Demi wrote on Instagram, “Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from @thebiggchillofficial when you have to walk past tons of sugar free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter. Do better please. #dietculturevultures” What happens when she walks by Diet Coke?

The business responded to Demi’s outburst with facts. They wrote, “We carry items for Diabetics, Celiac disease, Vegan and of course have many indulgent items as well.” Methinks Demi must not know shaming sugar free options kind of sounds like #dietculturevulture. Erasing foods for specific medical concerns? Hmmm help me out here – oh yeah, #dietculturevulture. Hypocrisy is a thing, folks!

Leah apparently couldn’t take it anymore because she dove in. Page Six shared what Leah wrote on her Instagram Story. Warning, common sense ahead. “Demi Lovato should be ashamed of herself for using her platform of 102 million people following her on Instagram to drag a frozen yogurt spot because she’s mad that they sell diet frozen yogurt and sugar-free options because that triggers her.”

Leah added, “I mean, I’m sorry that she had to deal with an eating disorder. That’s terrible. But does that mean that we have to stop offering people sugar-free options for things?” Do we stop selling peanuts because people suffer from allergies? Do we stop selling milk because people can’t digest dairy?

Leah also noted it was a poor use of Demi’s platform to call out a business in a manner that could affect sales. “The ultimate privilege is to just use your platform with millions and millions of people to drag a f–king business with 6,000 followers on Instagram who have been doing their thing since the ’80s.” Perhaps as a result of this misstep, Demi realizes her past eating disorder gives her no right to dictate what other people put in their mouths. In the event she does not, I’m sure Leah will be happy to point it out.
