Malia White Below Deck Mediterranean

Below Deck Mediterranean Bosun Malia White Hospitalized After Scooter Accident

Traveling the world is one of the biggest appeals of working in yachting.  How glorious to be paid to explore new locations!  And all us Below Deck viewers swoon over the views, whether it’s in the Mediterranean, Tahiti, or the Bahamas.

We know enough from watching Below Deck, Below Deck Mediterranean, and Below Deck Sailing Yacht that boat crews can take advantage of their location when they’re not working.  And without a production team in tow, trying to tempt them with alcohol and bad decisions, a normal boat crew have many options regarding sight-seeing on their days off.

Below Deck Mediterranean Bosun Malia White is currently working (off camera) with a team in Mallorca, Spain.  She cryptically posted a picture of herself posing on a scooter earlier this week.  It was captioned, “BEFORE PHOTO: had an amazing day exploring the island of Mallorca with my crew mates by scooter! But it didn’t end as nicely as it started…..”

One can deduce from the rest of the pictures included that Malia and her crew decided to explore the island on scooters.  There are breathtaking views of the coast, a villa, and a beach, as well as a group photo.  Unfortunately, Malia’s next post was not as pleasant.

Malia is in a hospital bed with a nasty gash on her forehead and her legs wrapped in dressings.  She wrote, “AFTER: on Instagram we usually share the pretty stuff but this is the important stuff- I’m sharing this to express the importance of always wearing a helmet. Mine quite literally saved my life. I spent the premiere night in a hospital bed after having a mean accident on my scooter.”

Malia did not explain how the accident happened.  She did say that she had prior experience riding and was sober.  At the end of the day, the lesson is to always be vigilant.  She wrote, “I’ve been riding scooters my whole life was familiar with the equipment, wasn’t drinking and was 10 minutes from my boat.  Accidents happen when you least expect them.”

“Luckily, I was able to walk away with a few stitches, fractured elbow, broken toes, severe road rash and a very sore body,” Malia continued, listing her injuries, “I don’t want to imagine what the case would have been without my helmet! I won’t hang up my scooter keys just yet… but I’m definitely aware of the importance of cruising safely!”

It sounds like Malia has a positive attitude about the whole situation, and that will certainly aid her recovery.
