Harry Hamlin Says Marriage With Lisa Rinna Works Because They’re “Diametrically Opposite”

When you think about role model marriages from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, immediately Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky spring to mind. Having  celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year, they have been the power couple of RHOBH since the start of the show. Well now, Kyle’s not the only one with a marriage boast about, as another couple just inched closer to the 25-year milestone: Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin

The RHOBH stars, parents to Amelia Grey and Delilah Hamlin, have revealed their secret to a happy marriage, and it’s that they’re complete opposites. Opening up about their marriage to People Harry confirmed that the ‘opposites attract’ theory rings true for the two of them. “[The secret is] being diametrically opposite,” he explained. “I like going up to the mountains, and her idea of camping is anything below the 10th floor of the Four Seasons.”

Lisa added, in classic Lisa fashion, “We’ll be married for 25 years in March, and I’ve worked hard. So I’ve picked out a very nice diamond.”

So how did the spark start for these two LA love birds? Harry’s retelling of the story is adorable and rom com worthy. “She played hard to get,” he recalled, remembering his first attempt to court Lisa. It turns out she may have gotten this tactic from a book. The actor explained, “The Rules (dating self-help book) had just come out and it was written by women, for women to teach them how to get a man. And in that book, one of the rules was, if you were called up by somebody and they asked you on a date, you had to say, ‘No’. You had to wait at least a week or whatever. And I knew that she had read that book.”

Well, Harry inevitably gave it another go later on, so we can’t entirely discount the books advice! “So I called her up and I said, ‘Do you want to come to dinner at this Italian restaurant?'” he explained, “and she said, ‘When?’ I said, ‘Well, how about in an hour? And I hadn’t talked to her in months. And, She showed up and broke all the rules.”

Lisa added, “I’d just come from work [on The Days of Our Lives] and had no makeup on, so I guess I wasn’t playing that hard to get.”

Congratulations to the two of them, making it work, in a town where a 25 year marriage is no small feat. In reflecting on what they owe the longevity of their marriage to, Harry explained, “We’ve always heard each other.” “And it doesn’t hurt that he’s so good-looking” Lisa quipped cheekily. We bet!
