Mauricio Umansky Reflects on ‘Soulful Connection’ With Emma Slater Following DWTS Elimination

When Mauricio Umansky joined Dancing with the Stars, he made his marriage woes evident from the jump. I’m sure that his estranged wife, Kyle Richards, wasn’t thrilled. After his intro package aired, Kyle didn’t look happy. Then came the partnership with Emma Slater.

The DWTS judges noticed the chemistry between Mauricio and his dance partner, Emma. During the Most Memorable Year episode, Maurcio dedicated his steamy contemporary routine to his wife. Thankfully, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was absent from the audience. Watching Mauricio and Emma sort of straddling each other was … uncomfortable.

And, Mauricio and Emma were spotted leaving dinner one night holding hands. They dismissed the incident in an awkward video, which just made it seem worse.

Monster Week was Mauricio and Emma’s DWTS downfall

Mauricio and Emma were sent home during Monster Week. What kind of costume is a gored matador? The judges should deduct points for that alone.

“It was so much fun! It was an incredible run, and quite honestly I got a chance to at least dance the Argentine tango, which is the dance I told them I really wanted to dance at the beginning,” Mauricio told Entertainment Tonight. “And we killed it! We danced so well.”

The couple earned 31 out of 40 points from the judges, putting them in the middle of the leaderboard. “I think the [best] way to go out is when you made so much improvement. And to perform an Argentine tango – which is the one that you wanted – and to lead me around the floor with that kind of passion, it is really exceptional,” Emma said.

Mauricio was “definitely” surprised that he was sent home after six grueling weeks of competition. “I knew that, eventually, it was gonna come to an end. That is, I’m not the strongest dancer here,” Mauricio explained. “There’s some great dancers out here. I mean, some really great dancers. I knew that my journey was gonna come to an end eventually.”

Mauricio decided to just treasure every day of the experience. “And when you enjoy every single day, there are no challenging parts,” he said.

Emma appreciated their connection

Emma shared that they “were the couple that probably rehearsed the most.” She continued, “You get to dance with so many people on this show, but not everybody has that real, soulful connection to you. And Mauricio does for me. So we’re gonna be friends for life.”

Emma also highlighted their easy rapport. “I think when you’re comfortable with someone and you can have stimulating conversations and it keeps rolling – also when you’re rehearsing for four hours a day – you get to really know people. So this has been a blessing,” she said.

“He’s so special. Such a positive energy. Gets the best out of everybody,” Emma added. “We had so much fun and it was amazing,” Mauricio said.

I guess we will see if these two move their relationship from the ballroom zone to the romantic zone.

Dancing with the Stars continues Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 13 continues on Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
