Real Housewives of New Jersey star Jackie Goldschneider is ready to take the next big step in her eating disorder recovery journey. She feels it may be time for her to get back on the scale — hopefully in a healthy way.
“I still haven’t weighed myself since May 2021,” she shared in an episode of Whine Down, Jana Kramer’s podcast. “But I have been having conversations with my dietician and therapist, who I still speak to once a week each, about getting back on the scale.”
So, is she ready to start weighing herself once more? And is that even a responsible thing to do?
Too much too soon amid Jackie’s anorexia battle?
Jackie’s doctors think it’s a “horrible idea” for her to weight herself. But, Jackie shared that she “wants to know how much I’ve gained and see what happens.”
Uhm, as someone recovering from an eating disorder, that doesn’t sound like a good idea for Jackie at all.
She added, “I’m at a place where I am about 75 percent recovered. And I have this 25 percent of old habits that I’m scared to let go of. Nothing anorexia,” she explained. “I’m not anorexic anymore. I don’t restrict myself like that anymore. There’s just things I’m scared of, and a big overriding fear is gaining too much weight if I let go of certain habits because I’ve already a fair amount of weight.”
Given her history and unhealthy relationship with the weighing scale, though, Jackie’s doctors are “scared of me adding back issues into my life by focusing on a number instead of how I feel.”
Here’s hoping she follows their advice.
Hopefully, it will be a while before the Bravo star returns to weighing herself. For now, Jackie is trying to enjoy other aspects of her recovery journey. That includes food she hasn’t been able to enjoy in a while.
“I never had a lot of foods that are, like, totally normal to other people, so I am eating them for the first time in my entire life,” she explained. Some she likes, some she can do without. She recalls almost crying while eating a tuna fish sandwich for the first time while she only found cannoli, “just okay.”
Jackie also credits RHONJ, which she joined in Season 9, for helping her with her health struggles. Having her recovery public gave her more accountability which she found helpful. And now, she’s being as transparent as possible about her struggles in the hopes of helping others.
Here’s wishing her well on a full and healthy recovery.
