Among reality TV’s greatest joys are the twists and turns. Dynamics, allegiances, and fan opinions can change at the drop of a hat. No star is ever safe from the edit.
By that same token, one of reality TV’s biggest drawbacks is the time between filming and release. With so much time for editors to cut a season and prepare it for airing, details can emerge that fans would have rather experienced as production intended.
For example, the shocking Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 4 finale. What a letdown it would’ve been if fans had discovered the truth about Monica Garcia and Reality Von Tease before the big exposé in the final episode. Andy Cohen recently shared his thoughts on that matter.
Andy instructed the RHOSLC Housewives at the reunion
In an interview with OK! Magazine, Andy reflected on the production and release of the RHOSLC Season 4 finale. “It was brilliantly produced,” he said. “I was in awe of how dramatic it was. I am so happy the women were able to keep this quiet.”
Andy knew as soon as Season 4 finished filming, there would be a risk of spoilers. As he put it: “I’m so grateful for the intense level of interest the fans have in this franchise. But with the passion for what’s happening or what’s going to happen, sometimes entire storylines or plot points are leaked.”
He made sure to emphasize the importance of secrecy with the stars. He explained, “It’s never in service of the show, but I remember before we started shooting the reunion, I said to the women, ‘Listen, you are sitting on an incredible finale. Don’t spoil it by leaking this. Let the viewers see it and hear about it for the first time.’”
He continued, “I’m so impressed with the women because production never leaks anything. It usually comes from the women or their glam. It was a really great lesson on how we can all have a collective experience watching this and processing it at the same time. I thought that was great.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 4 reunion airs part 2 on Tuesday, January 16 on Bravo.
