Why Larsa Pippen Gives Daughter $2,500 Monthly Allowance

On The Real Housewives of Miami Season 6, Larsa Pippen’s daughter, Sophia Pippen, made a guest appearance. During Sophia’s segment, it was revealed that Larsa gave her daughter a monthly allowance of $2,500.

Marcus Jordan told Sophia that the money didn’t roll over from month to month and, as such, joked that she ought to spend every last penny each month. Producers asked Larsa if she felt her family was privileged. Larsa said no, which Marcus found funny.

For his part, Marcus could absolutely recognize both his privilege and the privilege of the Pippen family. Still, fans were rather floored upon hearing about Sophia’s monthly income from her mom. Nevertheless, Larsa doubled down on the choice.

During Part 3 of the Season 6 reunion, Andy Cohen read the words of one fan who wrote in to express their disbelief that Larsa would give her daughter a monthly allowance of $2,500. Larsa stood by the decision for more than a few reasons. For one thing, she reminded her castmates that L.A. was an expensive place to live.

Larsa further explained that the money was primarily for food, Uber, and gifts for friends (some of which are luxuries that most teenagers don’t have and arguably don’t need). Larsa also defended her position by saying that Sofia was making her own money with modeling and brand deals, so she wasn’t learning to be dependent.

Adriana de Moura jumped in to say that, despite all of Larsa’s faults, she was a good mother. Andy, on the other hand, said the monthly allowance was “a double-edged sword.” The criticism, on the issue of her daughter and on other matters from the reunion, left her saying she felt she’d “taken a beating” all season long.

The Real Housewives of Miami Season 6 is available to stream on Peacock.
