The more we learn about Karen Huger’s car accident, the worse it gets. At first, The Real Housewives of Potomac star claimed that she crashed her Maserati because she was crying while driving. She blamed the whole ordeal on her emotional state. Later, we learned that she had been charged with a DUI.
TMZ just got their hands on the police report, and it reveals a lot more about Karen’s encounter with the law. According to their report, they could smell alcohol on Karen’s breath. That’s pretty damning.
Boozy breath and slurred speech
Of course, we all know the Grande Dame of Potomac likes to enjoy a shot of Fireball here and there. But if we’re to believe what the police are saying about the accident, this is looking bad on Karen’s part.
In addition to smelling booze on Karen’s breath, the police claimed that she was walking with a sway. They felt like her eyes appeared bloodshot and her speech was slurred. It was all of the classic signs of a drunk person, but Karen refused to take a breathalyzer.
The cops said they asked her twice how much she had to drink, but she refused to answer. They offered her medical attention and tried to get her to sit on a stretcher, but she refused that too. She even told the officers that she didn’t want to be filmed by their body cameras. Essentially, Karen didn’t cooperate with anything the police asked.
Since Karen refused the breathalyzer test, the state suspended her driver’s license. They arrested her and took her to the police station. Thankfully, Ray Huger was available to come rescue her. She has a court date next month to address the charges.
Although Karen hasn’t directly addressed the DUI, she released a statement after the crash saying she was “grateful to be alive.” She reminded RHOP fans that it’s important to “understand your emotional state” before getting behind the wheel. It’s also important to understand that if you’ve been drinking, it’s probably best to get a ride home. Surely that PSA from Karen is coming soon.
