Luke Broderick Bats Away Questions About Marriage to Kristen Doute: ‘Why Involve the Government?’

Luke Broderick doesn’t want to talk about walking down the aisle with Kristen Doute

During the Vanderpump Rules After Show, the stars from The Valley spoke about marriage, kids, and … the government. According to Luke, he’s thinking about his long-term future with Kristen. But he’s not that excited about signing on the dotted line — AKA, the marriage certificate.

“Everyone seemed to have the opinion that [marriage] was the right way to go, yet we see all these people getting divorced,” Luke said. “I’m like, ‘O.K., why involve the government in our choice to start a family?’ is kind of how I’m looking at marriage.”

Does marriage work for couples on The Valley?

It’s no surprise that Luke is hesitant about marriage with Kristen. His co-stars, Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor, have announced their marital struggles. And if that wasn’t enough, Michelle and Jesse Lally shared the news of their split just before the Season 1 premiere. Needless to say — it’s not all roses and sunshine.

“Yeah, we both want [marriage] someday,” Luke said. “… we want it when we feel like things have stabilized. But with Kristen’s timeline, her body clock, the baby’s more the priority.”

He continued, saying, “I know that she will be a fantastic mother, and I know we’ll both be dedicated to that child no matter what.”

Throughout the first five episodes of The Valley, Kristen and Luke have been open about wanting to have a baby. The former VPR star had support from friends like Lala Kent and Scheana Shay. However, she faced backlash from Jax Taylor, who questioned whether she was ready.

“What makes you think that she wouldn’t be ready?” Lala asked. “Are you mentally there to have a child right now?” Jax replied. “I just want you to do your research.”

Maybe somebody should’ve checked to make sure he did his research, too.

The Valley continues on Tuesdays at 9/8c.
