For years, viewers of the Real Housewives of New Jersey have had the pleasure of watching Dolores Catania and Teresa Giudice grow in their friendship. Growing up in Paterson, NJ, the two moms learned to depend on one another in a place where your word is everything. It has been extremely rare that Dolo or Tre have minced words. The only time in Garden State history I can remember them butting heads was when Teresa tried to reintroduce Danielle Staub into the mix.

But for the most part, there seems to be genuine respect between the two stars, and little disrupts their way of life. Their friendship isn’t conventional, and rarely do we see them laughing themselves silly. What usually gets caught by the camera is their ability to support one another through their trying times. With Season 14 upon us, let’s take a look at the moments that have made the Jersey girls thick as thieves.

Dolores defends Tre to the end

Loyalty is HUGE to both Teresa and Dolores. Even if, at times, their idea of loyalty feels twisted, Dolores won’t go against the OG. But what makes Dolores such a good friend to the mother of four is that she understands her BFF is incapable of recognizing when she is wrong. Both have grown up in an old-school mentality, which often means following a friend blindly into battle and rarely correcting them.

The kids come first

Putting aside the silly drama, Dolores and Teresa often interact with one another’s children. Some of the most heartwarming moments have come from the moms defending the mini-mes. A great example of this is when Dolo came to the defense of Miliania Giudice and her weight. The bruhaha occurred after Milania revealed on her mother’s podcast that she lost 40 lbs due to her sisters and mothers jabbing at her.

While Tre was being torn to shreds, Dolores noted that she remembered that Milania wasn’t always the healthiest. The muscle of New Jersey spoke in defiance of Tre via Us Weekly: “You know what? Sometimes, as an adolescent, you get into a healthy lifestyle. It’s good for a mom to monitor and be conscious of their child’s weight and to get on them about it before it gets out of hand.”

The shade is all in jest

Even though these two are best friends, there are times when either Dolores or Teresa shade the other. One moment that stands out is when Dolo grows tired of defending her relationship with David Principe. The group of Real Housewives of New Jersey ladies, especially Teresa, was worried her friend was being dragged along. Yes, Dolo was given a Porsche and helped to build a home, but there was no ring on that finger. Tensions boiled over, which caused Dolores to call out Teresa’s judgment.

In a memorable clip, Dolores recounted all the issues the ladies have had in their own lives, noting, “Teresa visits her husband in jail, Danielle’s been engaged 22 times, and they’re telling me my relationship is weird? Thank you! Now I know it’s good.” The best part was that Teresa didn’t dare to fight back and allowed her friend to vent.

The pink elephant in the room

Both Dolores and Teresa live by the old Italian code where you don’t ask about the other’s life issues. While this mantra wouldn’t work for me, it worked out for them. During Season 9, Teresa tried to bring up Frank Catania’s disbarment, but Dolo shut it down in the kindest of ways, telling cameras, “We really don’t talk about stuff like that. And you know it’s not because I’m not close enough to you to tell you.” This is perhaps one of the only times I have seen Tre understand someone else’s mentality.

Dolores clarified her stance, noting, “If I choose to share it, that’s my choice. There’s an unwritten law in Italian culture that you don’t ask someone about their personal business.” Viewers and Tre know that Paterson Dolores is not one to be trifled with. The fact that the mother of four respects her friend’s boundaries is why this moment is one of the best signs that their friendship is everlasting.
