Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby is navigating a heartbreaking tragedy. Her only child, Robert Cosby, Jr., passed away on February 23, 2026 in Utah. The police department answered a call for a possible overdose. However, after arriving on the scene, police switched to a death investigation.
“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace,” Mary said in a statement. “We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
Mary Cosby is reportedly planning to still film The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City

Following Robert Jr.’s death, insiders claimed that production on Season 7 of RHOSLC was on hold. Of course, that isn’t a surprise given the tragic circumstances. During the last two seasons, Mary and her son spoke openly about his addiction troubles. Those emotional discussions were the most vulnerable and raw moments ever featured on Real Housewives. Those intimate moments, between a mother and son, were unforgettable.
Meanwhile, sources told TMZ that Mary is planning to continue filming for RHOSLC. While it was up to Mary whether or not to resume working, the insiders claimed that Mary feels working on the show will give her some support and some “structure” as she deals with her grief. According to the sources, Mary will participate at her own pace. Right now, RHOSLC is reportedly in pre-production.
Both fans and Mary’s Bravo family are behind her during this difficult time. “We’re so sad to read the news about Mary Cosby’s son, Robert, and I just, I can’t think of anything worse than losing a child, and in this way,” Andy Cohen stated.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is streaming on Peacock.
