Drake Album Trashed as ‘Self-Serving Delusion’ in Brutal Pitchfork Review

Drake’s new album is getting a massive thumbs down. Part one of his trilogy album, called ICEMAN, was released by OVO Sound and Republic Records on Friday. It’s the ninth released by the Canadian, and it comes nearly three years after For All the Dogs came out.

The album has been labelled by one reviewer as a “self-serving delusion.” That is just some of the many criticisms being aimed at the rapper and his latest list of songs.

His trio of albums is hardly getting a ringing endorsement. Pitchfork saw a lot of issues with the Hotline Bling singer’s new tunes. While they say some stuff on that album is entertaining, in general, they deem it to be a “long platter of the cold, lumpy self-pity.”

They note that, in his song Make Them Pay, the Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador is “still complaining about inflated streaming numbers.”

Pitchfork cared little about any of the rapper’s three albums, while wondering how relevant he was today. They believe his apparent goals to settle personal scores are getting a little old.

His alleged feuds are not just with celebrities in the music industry. Among the many rumored beefs Drake has are with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, LeBron James, Kanye West and Megan Thee Stallion, to name a few.

Last week, Drake surprised fans with the release of two additional albums to go along with Iceman. In total, he rolled out 43 tracks on the three new albums, 18 of which were on Iceman.

Maid of Honour and Habibti were also released on Friday, with the latter featuring a mere 11 songs with just over 36 minutes’ worth of music.

These bad reviews come after Drake was nominated for a Grammy earlier this year for Best Melodic Rap Performance on the song Somebody Loves Me. He won a Grammy in that category in 2023 for the tune Wait for U.
