Pop singer Jessica Simpson has revealed why she flew first class while her three children traveled in economy amid widespread criticism. The 45-year-old explained, as reported by Page Six, “My mom bought those tickets. It was my mom’s treat for us to go to Hawaii.” Although the separation drew criticism from many, others defended it as a reasonable parenting choice.
Jessica Simpson fires back at Nick Lachey and explains why her kids were in a different section on a recent flight
The controversy erupted when Nick Lachey, who was married to Simpson from 2002 to 2006, confirmed during a May 13 episode of Andy Cohen’s show Watch What Happens Live, that he crossed paths with the singer when they “spent six and a half hours on a flight to Hawaii together.” He clarified that, “by ‘spent’ I mean in the same vicinity.” He then mentioned that Simpson sat with her mother, Tina Ann Drew, and her ex-husband, Eric Johnson, in first class.
Cohen then asked if the kids were in a separate class of service, to which Lachey replied, “Yes. A separate class of service,” and added that “everyone was very, very cordial” and “very respectful.”
Journalist Rob Shuter, in his Substack Naughty But Nice, wrote that an insider told him, “Jessica has done this many times before. She doesn’t believe her children should grow up thinking luxury is automatic just because their mother is famous.”
The source also explained, “Jessica remembers what it was like growing up without money. Her family struggled financially for years, so she values every opportunity she’s earned,” and added, “Jessica sees first class as a reward she worked decades to achieve — not something her children are automatically entitled to because of her success.” One more said, “Her attitude is very straightforward. Jessica is the celebrity. The kids are not.”
