Kim Zolciak is breathing a sigh of relief after a tense stretch in court. The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum has settled a debt that put her freedom at risk. A judge has warned that failing to pay a court-related fee could land her behind bars. She handed over the money at the last minute.
Kim Zolciak avoided jail after paying court-ordered fees in her ongoing divorce from Kroy Biermann
Court paperwork obtained by TMZ shows a Georgia judge instructed the RHOA personality to turn over $2,535 in outstanding fees. That money was owed to the guardian ad litem appointed in her long-running divorce from Kroy Biermann. The order carried a stark warning: if the payment did not arrive by next month, jail time was on the table.
Sources familiar with the matter told the outlet that she cleared the entire balance on July 14, a Tuesday, lifting the threat of incarceration. The Guardian had been tasked by the judge with interviewing both parents and their four minor children in order to help sort out custody questions.
The relationship between the Real Housewives star and that guardian has been rocky. She has previously argued the guardian brushed aside her allegations of abuse as well as her worries about her ex-husband’s parenting.
For his part, the former NFL player has alleged the children faced mental harm in her care, and he has dismissed as baseless her belief that the guardian was working against her.
The couple’s court battle has stretched on for years, with custody and support sitting at the center of the fight. Neither of them has shown much sign of backing down, and the guardian’s involvement has become one of several flashpoints along the way.
The tension has also affected their older children. Their adult daughter Brielle Biermann said this week that she has not spoken with her father in some time and is unsure whether he will show up at her upcoming wedding.
For now, though, the immediate crisis has passed for Zolciak, who no longer faces the prospect of jail over the unpaid fee. None of the abuse claims raised by either side has been proven in court.
