Angie Katsanevas and Shawn Trujillo hit a breaking point with Bravo cameras rolling, and the RHOSLC trailer puts it front and center.
According to TMZ, the emotional conversation centers on their daughter, Elektra, with Shawn warning that a separation would deeply affect her. The scene was filmed months before news of the couple’s split became public.
“If we choose to go our separate ways, that will crush her,” he says. She breaks down in tears immediately. News of their separation after 27 years surfaced in July, months after the cameras captured it.
Angie’s storyline isn’t the only marriage in trouble this season.
Whitney Rose tells Justin Rose she is unsure their marriage can continue, saying, “I don’t know if you and I can move forward in our marriage or if it’s over.” Their separation became public weeks after Angie and Shawn’s. Bronwyn Newport’s split from Todd Bradley also turns bitter, with Todd walking out of a meal and telling her, “I’m not doing this with you.”
That represents a real shift for the show. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City went six full seasons without a divorce before this one. Whitney and Justin are the first original RHOSLC couple to publicly separate.
Grief threads through the season as well. Mary Cosby lost her son Robert Cosby Jr. earlier this year, and the trailer shows her crediting her husband Robert Cosby Sr. with carrying her through it. She also thanks Katsanevas for standing by her during the worst stretch of her life. “I could not have gotten through it without you guys,” she says.
Bravo’s own description of Katsanevas’ arc matches the footage. The network says she is finding her voice while realizing she may be growing apart from the person she loves most.
