King Charles had an interesting reaction to a comedian, Matt Friend, who impersonated him during his visit to the US earlier this year. His response seemingly prompted laughter from those around. It happened when the monarch attended the garden party held at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C.
King Charles’ reaction to American comedian impersonating him revealed
Matt Friend was a guest at the same US event as King Charles and thought to introduce the monarch in a unique way. He approached Charles and greeted him before letting him know that he had practiced an impression of him. He shared that he had been studying him as he mimicked the king’s accent. Charles immediately said, “Keep trying,” a response that received laughs from the crowd.
The king didn’t stop there; he went ahead to acknowledge Friend’s efforts. “We’ll award you marks of merit,” he added playfully. Friend politely replied, “Thank you very much.” This particular interaction attracted massive public attention, with many praising the king for his well-timed humor and fun remark.
In conversation with This Morning’s Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Friend spoke about his experience of impersonating royalty and his reaction to the response. He said, “I’m alive after impersonating a King to his face so I’d consider that a success,” he joked. He also appreciated the monarch’s quick response, saying that he “didn’t miss a beat.”
Over the years, Charles has displayed his amazing sense of humor on multiple occasions. A recent occasion that comes to mind is his interaction with a member of the public, who claimed he’s the same age as him and appreciated his appearance. The person remarked that the king looks good for his 77 years of age. “It gets much harder, doesn’t it?” the king wittily responded. This happened during the Sandringham Flower Show, hosted by the Royal Horticulture Society (via PEOPLE).
