Gayle King Has a Brutal Message for Hayden Panettiere’s Estranged Mom

Gayle King slammed late actor Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, over her statement on the Nashville star’s tragic death. King read Vogel’s tribute dedicated to Panettiere, wherein she described her as an “amazing” and “talented” woman “on the wrong path.” Notably, Panettiere was reportedly discovered unresponsive and in cardiac arrest at an Airbnb residence in Greenville, South Carolina. She was declared dead on August 16 at 2:32 p.m.

Gayle King responds to Lesley Vogel after Hayden Panettiere’s death

Gayle King berated Lesley Vogel over her comments on her late daughter Hayden Panettiere’s unfortunate death. The “CBS Mornings” co-host hit back, stating: “You know, guys, you read this and all I can think is, ‘Thanks, Mom, for nothing.’”

King further added: “It makes me so sad of the opportunity that you have after your daughter’s death. That’s what you choose to leave us with.” The 71-year-old journalist berated Vogel for making backhanded comments about her daughter after her death. She also chided her for not sharing a more heartwarming tribute, unlike the late actor’s father, Skip Panettiere.

King recalled speaking to the “Heroes” star about her “complicated relationship with her mom” being a “work in progress” (via Page Six). Moreover, the CBS host insisted that despite Panettiere’s death, the fractured relationship is “still very much in progress.”

Kelly O’Grady agreed with King and stated that Vogel should have stopped at “she’s amazing and she’s talented.”

Another colleague, Vladimir Duthiers, sided with the Scream star, stating that she “cannot respond now.” Duthiers also pointed out that Panettiere spent “years publicly acknowledging her own failures, her own struggles.”

“For her mother to use these days after Hayden’s death to just remind the world just how much trauma she caused. It’s unseemly. You would hope a mother’s instinct is just to mourn your daughter,” the journalist added.

A couple of days after her daughter’s tragic death, Vogel also name-dropped Panettiere’s ex-boyfriend Brian Hickerson. Vogel told NBC News: “This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death and that was Brian Hickerson.”
