The Traitors’ Colton Underwood Breaks Silence on Michael Rapaport’s Homophobic Attack

Season 4 of The Traitors is delivering! The show had a secret, albeit brief, twist with a Secret Traitor. Meanwhile, Michael Rapaport continued to create chaos and sow division in the castle. And when he came for The Bachelor alum Colton Underwood, it was too much for the cast.

During a roundtable in Season 4, Episode 5, Michael attacked Colton. However, by then, Michael had already aggravated his fellow players with his aggressive style and insistence on distracting the group. During the roundtable discussion, Michael told Colton, “Nobody in this room would be better at holding a secret than you.”

It seemed pretty clear that Michael was referencing the fact that Colton hid his sexuality for many years. And the players’ angry reactions were immediate. “The coming-out process takes a long time, and I’m still very much in my coming-out process,” Colton told Entertainment Weekly. “The drama and the intensity of the show is always so game-focused, so I think that’s what just threw me a little bit, is when it got personal. And he was using me as a human being instead of my gameplay against me,” he added.

While Michael denied that his remark was about Colton’s sexuality, that isn’t the way that Colton felt. “I could just tell you how I took it, and I did take it that it was not in a gaming way,” Colton explained. “And it was more of a personal dig at my past and what I went through and how I handled myself.” And when Michael did apologize, Colton decided “to take him for his word. I’m not holding a grudge against him, but I do think it is important for me in my life at this point to start standing up for myself.” He added, “I can only be a punching bag for so long.”

Meanwhile, while he hasn’t spoken to Michael, Colton revealed that they “exchanged a conversation that, for right now, is being kept private.” It seems that the players were happy to banish Michael and see his toxic energy exit the castle.

The Traitors continues on Thursdays at 9/8c on Peacock.
