Meghan Markle’s Authenticity Questioned Amid Australian Tour — Source

Meghan Markle opened her Australia tour with a small gesture that quickly became a bigger talking point. The Duchess and Prince Harry arrived for a run of hospital, shelter, and community visits, yet the “call me Meg” moment drew just as much attention as the schedule itself. As per a new source claim, that softer approach was meant to feel warm and personal. Instead, it raised fresh questions about image, timing, and authenticity.

As per RadarOnline report, the Duchess of Sussex faced ridicule after critics seized on her request for a more informal introduction. The outlet said Meghan Markle and Prince Harry began engagements across Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney last week. Those stops included the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and McAuley Community Services for Women. One source told the outlet, “Encouraging people to basically ‘call me Meg’ is being seen by critics as a carefully curated attempt to project approachability.” The same source added that, for some observers, it felt “less as genuine warmth and more as a calculated rebrand.”

The report said aides told hospital staff that “Harry and Meghan” was fine for forms of address. That detail became part of the backlash. Another insider said, “This kind of informality feels staged,” arguing that the contrast between Markle’s public tone and her wider image fueled skepticism. The criticism centered less on one phrase and more on what critics saw as a polished reset during a closely watched Australia tour. Meanwhile, the Sussexes kept moving through appearances built around community outreach, charity work, and public-facing visits.

Still, the reception on the ground was not entirely negative. During Markle’s visit to McAuley, one resident told her, “You look like a model!” The former “Suits” star replied, “That’s so generous – you are so nice!” McAuley CEO Jocelyn Bignold also welcomed the attention, saying, “It’s very lovely to have attention on the whole issue of homelessness and family violence.” At the hospital, one patient said the couple “wished me good luck on my journey.” So while the “Meg” gesture sparked authenticity questions. The official stops still produced supportive reactions.
