New Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Star Says She Turned Down Real Housewives

Madison Bontempo, cast member of the new Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County series, was originally offered roles on a few Real Housewives shows. She has accepted a spot on Hulu’s spinoff of the successful The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives show.

The Orange County version follows the success of the OG series, which is set in Utah. Its cast of eight is currently filming, but no release date has been announced.

Madison revealed her previous Real Housewives opportunities on the Wednesday, May 13 episode of the Unplanned podcast. “For years when I lived in Los Angeles, they asked me to be on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and I turned it down,” she said, alluding to a The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City audition. After relocating to Orange County, Madison was asked to join the Real Housewives of OC and turned it down. She also said no when offered the show again following a move from Utah.

Madison accepted the first interview to assess the vibe. “I took the interview and then they wanted me to meet up with the other women, and they really wanted me to do it, she said. Her nerves kicked in, and she decided to turn it down.

Months later, Madison was asked to join the SLOMW spinoff cast, which would film in California’s Orange County. “This felt more right because the girls are my real friends. I am LDS,” she explained. “I felt like it wasn’t as scary because I knew everybody on it, and we were all doing this for the first time together. It’s not like you’re jumping into a cast that’s already been there for so long and you’re the new girl. We’re all starting it at the same time [and] it is this new thing for all of us.”

She stars with longtime friends Aspyn Ovard, Avery Woods, Salomé Andrea, McCall DaPron, Ashleigh Pease, Chandler Higginson Brooks and Bobbi Althoff.
