Gavin Newsom slams Donald Trump in new tweet
California Governor Gavin Newsom recently took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) account to slam Donald Trump over his White House ballroom project.
Newsom wrote in his tweet, “Donald Trump lied to you. He said he’d fight for you. Instead, he’s building himself a $1 billion ballroom and handing his criminal cronies a $1.7 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund. MAGA, wake up.”
Trump’s ballroom project for the White House recently hit a roadblock after the Senate blocked funding. According to a BBC report, Elizabeth MacDonough, a member of the Senate, ruled that the $1 billion in taxpayer funds should not be used for the Republican spending package.
Another Senate member and Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, supported the decision given by MacDonough and said in a tweet, “Republicans tried to make taxpayers foot the bill for Trump’s billion-dollar ballroom. Senate Democrats fought back — and blew up their first attempt. Now Ballroom Republicans say they’re going back to the drawing board to try again. And Senate Democrats will be ready to stop them again. Americans don’t want a ballroom. They don’t need a ballroom. And they sure as hell should not be forced to pay for one.”
On the other hand, according to a report by CNBC, commenting on the verdict, Republican and Senate Majority Leader John Thune said, “We’ll be trying a new approach. You just kind of continue to figure out, how do we address the concerns that are raised there, and the pathway to do that?”
