The Boys actor Karl Urban has weighed in on fans backing him as the next Indiana Jones. Veteran star Harrison Ford portrayed the iconic character in 2023’s Dial of Destiny in his last outing as the heroic archaeologist. He portrayed Indiana Jones in five movies, starting with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The Mortal Kombat 2 star has offered his reaction to the idea of stepping into the legendary role of Indiana Jones.
Although Dial of Destiny earned approximately $384 million globally, it became a box office letdown (via Box Office Mojo). It reignited the question of whether the beloved role will go to someone else, and who might take on it.
Recently, on X (formerly Twitter), stand-up comedian and actor Steve Byrne proposed that Karl Urban should take over as Indiana Jones. “There’s truly only one man that could replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones…@KarlUrban HE WOULD CRUSH IT,” the post read.
Karl Urban jumped into the comment section to thank Byrne for the nod. However, he believes that he wouldn’t be able to replace Ford, calling Harrison’s portrayal irreplaceable.
“While I appreciate the vote of confidence-Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones – he is irreplaceable !” the Star Trek actor commented. Notably, this also marks Urban’s first post on X since March 28, 2023.
The suggestion also sparked a lively debate online. While many fans endorsed Urban’s take, others argued that no one could replace Harrison Ford. “I would actually be ok with this,” wrote a fan. “Indy ends with Ford, create new characters,” argued another. “He’s got the skills but can we just be happy with the three we have and just retire the character please? Let’s make some new characters and stories,” read a comment.
Meanwhile, no one has been publicly confirmed as being in talks to take over Harrison Ford’s mantle as Indiana Jones. Chris Pratt, once rumored to be the recasting choice for the legendary archeologist, shut down the speculation in 2022. He further clarified that it is “not anything that’s real.”
Besides River Phoenix as a young Indy in The Last Crusade, Ford is the only actor to play the character on the big screen.
