Sunny Hostin of The View criticized President Donald Trump for “smirking” at a derogatory remark about former first lady Michelle Obama. The incident occurred during the White House’s UFC Freedom 250 event on Sunday evening, HuffPost reported. UFC heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit made the remarks after winning his fight at the event.

Hokit told UFC commentator Joe Rogan on the White House lawn, “Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?” The event commemorated the 250th anniversary of the United States. It also simultaneously celebrated Trump’s 80th birthday.

Hostin addressed the remark on Monday’s episode of the show. She stated, “I do want to address the derogatory slur made about the former first lady.” She then connected the insult to a broader historical pattern affecting Black women.

“For a long time, and the roots are in slavery, Black women have been slurred,” Hostin said. She argued that the “intersectionality between racism and sexism” was “on full display at the White House.” Hostin also criticized the crowd for laughing at the remarks.

She added, “That is beneath the dignity of the office of the president of the United States.” The studio audience clapped in response to her statement.

Co-host Ana Navarro revealed she “didn’t watch one second of that UFC fight.” She claimed Trump is “so obsessed with the Obamas” and that they “live rent-free” in his head. Navarro also said she plans on celebrating America’s 250th birthday by voting against Republicans.

Neither Trump nor Rogan has publicly denounced Hokit’s remarks. UFC head Dana White told Time magazine he is “completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families.” White House spokesperson Steven Cheung dodged a question about the insult, according to CNN’s Jake Tapper.
