The Real Housewives of Orange County will be back on screen in a matter of days, but the upcoming season seems like it might be a difficult one for Emily Simpson. Between the Season 20 teaser trailer and a new interview, Emily has hinted that there’s trouble in her marriage to Shane Simpson.
Emily Simpson opens up about strain in her relationship with Shane Simpson
Towards the end of RHOC Season 19, fans could already see tensions rising between Emily and her husband, Shane. The pair often clashed, particularly over the changing dynamic in their marriage.
“Emily knows I do a lot. But I don’t think she values how much it is,” Shane said in one episode.
To that, Emily acknowledged that since joining RHOC, the pair’s responsibilities have shifted. “When Shane and I first got married, it was supposed to be: I’d be home with the kids, and Shane would work,” she explained. “Then I ended up on a TV show [and] I work more than I ever anticipated.”
Things don’t seem to have improved too much since then. In the Season 20 trailer, issues continued to arise in Emily and Shane’s marriage. This was also confirmed in the official promotional material.
“After an emotional year with her family, Emily Simpson is focusing on her health as she turns 50. Treating self-care as a priority has led her to be a better friend, mother, and wife. But it’s not always easy,” the RHOC Season 20 announcement read. “As Emily and Shane continue to navigate the complexities of raising their family, Shane makes career and parental sacrifices that strain their marriage.”
Beyond that, Emily herself also hinted there’s trouble ahead. Earlier this month, she told PEOPLE that fans see their “real marriage.”
“I think people get a bird’s-eye view into a real long-term marriage, with all the ups and downs — with the kids, the blended family, the dogs, the animals, the house, everything,” she explained.
The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 20 premieres July 9 on Bravo, and streams the next day on Peacock.
