Poker pro Jared Griener couldn’t enjoy his WSOP winnings in Las Vegas for long. He says he walked straight into an ambush. The player alleges he won big at the World Series of Poker and cashed out his winnings. He then returned to his Las Vegas Airbnb, where thieves allegedly hogtied and robbed him. Griener escaped unharmed but lost his entire bankroll.
Jared Griener says two men tied him up and stole his bankroll after he returned from the WSOP
The Huntington Beach, California, poker pro Jared shared screenshots of text messages in a series of posts on X recounting the ‘traumatizing’ incident. He said that he returned to his rented Airbnb at 8 p.m. Sunday—only to find two masked men waiting for him inside.
“Last, after busting the closer, I collected payouts from the summer and drove back to my Airbnb. When I walked in the front door, two men were there waiting, immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up, and took my backpack with my entire roll in it,” Griener wrote.
The attackers also threatened to kill him if he moved. “I was hogtied and stuck there for a while, trying to escape, and finally got out and ran out of the house to a neighbor to call 911,” the player added.
Griener said he suffered no physical injuries but called the incident one of the most terrifying experiences of his life. He also suspects the thieves specifically targeted him and had detailed information about his movements.
“These people knew the door code to my Airbnb; they were waiting for me inside, and video surveillance from neighbors showed they arrived at the Airbnb 10 minutes before me,” he wrote. Jared says the Vegas detectives are investigating the robbery, but no arrests have been made so far.
According to Spade Poker, the pro player achieved a standout result by bagging 218th place in the WSOP 2026 main event and secured a reward of $57,500.
