According to a royal author, Harry was upset that, comparatively, his and Meghan Markle’s romance moved at a faster pace.

According to author Simon Vigar, Prince Harry was disappointed with the courtship time given to Prince William and Kate Middleton. Unlike William and Middleton, Harry and Meghan’s courtship moved faster. “Harry couldn’t help comparing his own experience with William’s,” a source familiar with discussions around Harry and William’s relationship told RadarOnline.com. They continued, “From his perspective, his brother and Catherine had years to build their relationship away from intense pressure, making it a slow-burn.”
The pair got “time to understand exactly what royal life would involve before making such a significant commitment.” The source added, “Harry felt circumstances moved much more quickly for him and Meghan.” Thus, he “believed there was far less opportunity for that same gradual adjustment.” Vigar shared on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast that Middleton got time to think whether joining the royals was the right choice before accepting the role.
“William was concerned it was all happening too quickly. Harry bristled at that and didn’t like his brother’s reaction to that,” Vigar stated. He shared that Harry feared it was tough to find someone who would embrace the demands of royal life. This is believed to have made his relationship with Markle important to him. “William believed the slow pace of his relationship with Catherine had strengthened their partnership,” another royal source said.
Meanwhile, Harry felt he and Meghan had no reason to delay, and he struggled with “doubts from those closest to him. Middleton was reportedly allowed to have a normal relationship before joining the royal life. “That’s something Harry never had and clearly resented,” Vigar said. This is because once he and Meghan “mutually decided this is it, which was very early on, it went into warp drive, and they were married in 2018.”
