In a new interview with PEOPLE at Hello Sunshine’s “Shine Away” event, Teigen said the public often judges the Duchess of Sussex unfairly and described her as a steady, supportive friend. The conversation was a part of Teigen’s promotion of type 1 diabetes screening — a cause close to her family.

Chrissy Teigen’s recent PEOPLE interview is a testament to her friendship with Meghan Markle. Speaking of Markle, Teigen told the tabloid, “I really adore her. I think she is so incredibly strong.”
She added, “It is insane to me how polarizing she is for so many different people, when she really is just such a kind, good person that wants the best for all her friends and the best for people around her, and the best for her own relationship and for her children.”
Teigen suggested that Markle’s choices are not about optics. “She just wants those things,” the model explained, adding, “people come up with all these different things that she could be about or what she wants, … [but] it’s not that complicated.”
Moreover, Teigen added, “People are always going to read into what they want to read into, and they’re going to hyperfocus into what they want to believe.”
According to Teigen, what matters most to Markle is peace at home. She said, “I think it’s cool that [Meghan] is just like, ‘Listen, say whatever you want. I’m happy and I’m healthy and I feel good.’”
When asked about playdates with Markle and Prince Harry’s children, Teigen laughed, stating, “I don’t go anywhere. I try to do every photo shoot, every everything at our house. So no. But if the time came up, absolutely.”
The interview proves that Meghan Markle is in Chrissy Teigen’s good books, and their friendship is more than what meets the eye.
