Kathy Hilton has just made her debut as a friend-of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but she’s already iconic. And proving she deserves a diamond 1000% more than Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave. She’s the goofy older sister of Kyle “Doogie” Richards and Kim Richards and the mother of Paris Hilton. She’s bringing the funny back to RHOBH with her poor eyesight and martini chugging, which is a welcome change after the Season 10 gang up on Denise Richards.
Kathy brings a fabulosity and light-heartedness to a show where many of the longtime cast members like to hide their secrets behind the smoke and mirrors of glam looks. Like, her asking if she can put mouthwash in her flask literally sent me over the moon last week and RHOBH is only two episodes in. Truly a queen and as Lisa Vanderpump says, she takes no-nonsense.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has a lot going on this season. There was so much fall out from last, with Denise Richards leaving and Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave doing us all a favor and getting fired. With that, came a cast shakeup. Sutton Stracke, previously a friend of, was promoted to a full-time housewife. Crystal Kung Minkoff was also added to the cast. Kathy Hilton, Kyle Richards‘
much more famous sister was also added to make some appearances this season.
One person I’m thrilled to be coming back from last season is Garcelle Beauvais. I felt like last season, she really brought a realness to the cast. And she just so happened to be the only one
with any sense in Denise’s corner as she was bullied off the show.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has started out stronger than I assumed it would this season. I’m already enjoying the new girl, Crystal Kung Minkoff. Sutton Stracke, who I was personally mesmerized by last season, was promoted to a full time housewife. Thanks to some insensitive comments, I’m not loving Sutton but let’s see how it plays out. And we cannot forget one of the most important additions to the franchise EVER, Ms. Kathy Hilton herself. While she’s not a full time player, she’s enjoyable with the little we’ve seen.
So the cast shake up this season was a pretty big one, but much needed. Gone
and already forgotten from last season is Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave. You know, Kyle Richards’ partner in crime? What those two saw in each other is beyond me but I can only assume that two shady b*tches just like to be shady together. But while fans clearly aren’t missing Teddi, someone actually is.
What is it with the Real Housewives and their quest for authenticity? Reality shows are hardly unscripted and organic so what are we trying to accomplish here? Sure you can ignore the producers and be your charming, amicable, housewife self, but will you get hired for another season that way? It will be a bittersweet termination from the job, because at least you will have your self-respect. But something tells me that self-respect and success in show business don’t necessarily intersect.
Even more so in the hub of it all, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. This show has professional actresses on the cast. Yet they really expect each other to stop the facade? Of course everyone is playing a part for the show, actress or not. Garcelle Beauvais, especially, has been demanding authenticity from her cast mates, specifically Lisa Rinna. It’s spillover drama from last season when Lisa, according to Garcelle, was not a true friend to Denise Richards. After Brandi Glanville revealed a sexual relationship with Denise, Lisa pushed Denise to corroborate the story. Denise continued to deny, and Garcelle still feels Lisa is untrustworthy for not being a more supportive and understanding friend.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are back and already feuding during the second episode of the season. The ladies went to Lake Tahoe to hang out in a beautiful mansion with plenty of snacks for Kathy Hilton. Garcelle Beauvais continued to let Lisa Rinna know she’s not letting her off the hook for her total betrayal of Denise Richards. It was hyped up that Erika Jayne would reveal something related to her
sham divorce and ongoing legal issues. But, as usual, she was bland, vague and disappointing. Maybe she knows the feds are watching.
Kathy was the true star of the show, asking to put mouthwash in a flask and taunting her sister Kyle Richards by calling her Doogie. That’s total payback for Kyle calling Denise a raggamuffin. And the episode ended with the newest diamond holders Sutton Stracke and Crystal Kung Minkoff going head-to-head after hours.
Kyle was speaking to the newbies about her talk with Garcelle about the charity auction drama. Kyle was actually a good listener for once and seemed to have learned something from Garcelle speaking about her experience as a black woman. Crystal began talking about stereotypes that people of Asian descent deal with. And Sutton weirdly cut her off saying they weren’t “doing that” or talking about racial stereotypes. Like Crystal said, it’s easy for Sutton to say as a white woman of privilege. It ended with Crystal asking Sutton if she was one of those girls that “doesn’t see color.” The claws are out and we know this fight is far from over.
While the current season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will likely center around Erika Jayne’s legal mess, Lisa Rinna has some “owning it” to do. She’s coming off last year where she betrayed her longtime friend Denise Richards and used her daughter’s eating disorder as a storyline. Rinna can be fishy at times, because we know she loves the spotlight and controlling the narrative around her. That’s why she’s never TALKED ABOUT THE HUSBAND, at least to Kim Richards.
Aside from Rinna’s bad behavior as a friend last season, she also might become in-laws with the Kardashians. However, Lisa’s fam probably won’t be granted their own 20-season-long reality show. The 19-year-old daughter of Rinna and Harry Hamlin, Amelia Gray Hamlin, is dating 38-year-old Scott Disick. Yes, Kourtney Kardashian’s baby daddy just can’t stay away from younger women. Maybe it’s a midlife crisis, considering Kourt and her new boo Travis Barker are #goals. Well, at least their Instagrams make it look that way.
Two truths and a lie. That’s what it’s all boiling down to on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. This game could lead to viewers finally getting their first set of answers about Erika Girardi. Enough of the cloud of mystery. People deserve to know the reality of what’s going on in her life. When you sign up for a show like this, you make it the world’s business. These are the same people who wanted full transparency from Denise Richards. Do the same.
If the previews are any indication, it’s also time for the newest wives to go to battle. Crystal Kung Minkoff & Sutton Stracke are about to find themselves at odds early on. It’s too early to fully commit to a side, but something points to Crystal coming out on top. Sutton’s oddball behavior might’ve met her match with Crystal. Lake Tahoe, work your magic.
Last season marked the end of the road for two Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars. Teddi Mellencamp, Kyle Richards’ bestie, popped out of her father John Mellencamp’s shadow to share some news. She was fired from the show. Teddi admitting that she was axed was a refreshing change of pace.
Denise Richards denied the allegations that she had a sexual liaison with RHOBH alum Brandi Glanville. She exited the show after her sophomore season. Meanwhile, Brandi is still waiting to hear from Denise. Good luck, girl!
