The season finale of My Antonio aired last night with Brooke Barlow coming up victorious. The 30 year old nurse from Mississippi won the heart of Antonio Sabato Jr.
In a new interview with VH1, Brooke opens up about the current state of her relationship with Antonio. According to Brooke, she hasn’t spoken to Antonio in 2 – 3 months, and they are no longer together. She opens up about her thoughts on Yvonne, and why she wanted Antonio to sign that contract.
Excerpts from her interview below -
Congratulations.
Well, thank you. That’s really, really nice to hear. No one’s been able to tell me that yet.
Where is your relationship with Antonio at this moment?I’m just going to be honest with you: I am not in touch with Antonio. We haven’t spoken in probably two, three months.
The show was shot when?
In January. We couldn’t really court, because we weren’t allowed to be seen in public, so it’s very difficult to try to have a relationship behind closed doors. We had just met and we tried to pull it off. We saw each other for probably a couple of months after the show was filmed, and then we just decided it was best to see other people, and I haven’t heard from him since.
You did give it a try though?
Oh yeah. We put effort into it. I met his children. We would go hiking on the weekends in his back yard in the woods. We saw each other on the weekends, being very careful not to let anyone else see us. If he had any sort of job interview in L.A., he would stop by and visit me in my home. He’s adorable. We had a great time — as good of a time as you could have indoors with no outside contact. It was really nice getting to know him and his children.
Was it weird making the transition from reality show romance to real-life romance?Yeah. The reality of Antonio’s life is that it is very, very mellow and structured. He is a great dad. He cooks his kids breakfast, he takes them to school, they come home, he cooks them dinner and in between he gets a workout in. I think that’s great for him. He’s a family guy and he takes care of his kids. So, that was different.
No jumping out of planes, then?
Well, when you put two people together and they can’t do that kind of stuff, there has to be a lot of conversation and a deep, spiritual connection as far as establishing a foundation for a relationship. He thought that should come with time, but to me, I just felt like we didn’t have much to talk about. Don’t get me wrong: I had fun with him and his children. That was great. But do I wish we could have done some more exciting things? Of course. We could have said, “Hey, let’s put our relationship on hold and resume when we don’t have to be behind closed doors.”
Is that still possible? If Antonio called you tomorrow and said, “Let’s hang out,” what would you say?
I think we could be really good friends. I’m not mad at him. You can’t say a bad thing about Antonio Sabàto, Jr. He is beautiful and he has a very kind heart. And yeah, if he called me and wanted to go to dinner, sure. As far as picking back up in some sort of serious, committed relationship, that would take some time.
What are your overall thoughts on Yvonne?
Love Yvonne. I think that she is a lovely woman. Whether or not she played it up for the show, she’s got a hard side to her. I think she was a little hard on Tully, and that she came across as ruthless. But I understand where she’s coming from: she wanted an apology from Tully, and clearly she’s never going to get it. Yvonne is who she is, and you have to accept people for who they are. She happened to like me, thank God.
It’s interesting that you talk about your approach to let Antonio talk first, because you were also assertive with him. You openly questioned his career status.
Let me start here: I did not know who Antonio Sabàto, Jr., was before I did this show. I knew he created a name for himself, but the reality is that if you’re an actor and you’re doing a reality show, your acting career isn’t on top. I’m not an idiot. I just wanted to know what his goals were. What if he got in a car wreck tomorrow and no longer looked like he does? I didn’t know what he’d done as far as preparing a future. I knew that he had two kids. It was a legitimate concern of mine to know how he’d be able to provide, especially if he chose me and we had more children. But I thought his answer was awesome. He said that he’s been providing for himself since he was 16-years-old and he has the drive of 1,000 horses. He couldn’t have answered that in a better way. I don’t care if you have money, but as long as you have ambition and the wits about you to make the money, I’m good.
Was your request for a relationship contract also a product of your concern about the way things work on reality TV?
No. I like that it came across to you that way, but that’s not it at all. It’s again Dr. Pat Allen’s theory. I actually shouldn’t have said it in the context that I did – I should have waited till he was trying to sleep with me or whatever. I just wanted Antonio to know that I’m not an easy girl to be with, that if he wanted a casual, sexual relationship, that’s just not me. Basically, before taking that plunge, I wanted to know: how often are you going to see me, is it just going to be me and what are your long-term goals for me? I want to be courted, and regardless of an engagement ring or whatever, those things are important to know before I let someone in.
Looking back on everything – competing, winning, breaking up with Antonio – are you disappointed with the way this all turned out?No. I would love for this to parlay into some great hosting career or some other great experiences derived from the show, but overall I have no regrets. I’ll never not nurse. I love what I do, but at the same time, it’d be nice to have some options.
Did you go on this show looking for exposure?
Yeah. I mean…I prayed a lot about appearing on it. The doors just opened, my employers told me that I could take a leave even for a month, and if I would have said no, I would have been the only block to the opportunity. I just did it. I just jumped in. I’m glad I did. Had the relationship worked out, I wouldn’t have cared about parlaying it into exposure and opportunities. But since it didn’t, I’m hoping the exposure will enable me to have other work.

Brooke was a bore. She had zero personality. She was constantly laughing at nothing. I knew from the start he would pick her b/c she was the best looking one, although she looked kind of haggard without makeup.
When she told Antonio she wanted a contract with him, I knew it wouldn’t last. They barely know each other. She also seems overly concerned with his finances. Her excuse is because she wants to make sure he can support kids. What makes her think he wants any more kids? She would have gotten pregnant in a heartbeat given the opportunity. He’s dumb but he’s obviously not stupid.

how dare she. she really won’t in it for antonio. he is a great man. its her lost. EXPOSURE!!! please. i am tired of people going on love show just for expose. do you realize that you are playing with peoples hearts?
It is unfortunate that This is what we have come to see as the result on all of the “romance” show’s. ME,Me,Me,… I, I, I, but lets face it, you have to have a mighty high opinion of yourself to do these kinds of shows, thinking I am going to win, I can bet all the other skanks.
I know Miranda wasn’t the hottest out of the two, but she was by no means unattractive and she fit his lifestyle better than Brooke. I honestly believe if he had been a little less shallow and chosen Miranda, they would still be together.

When are people going to stop watching these shows? They all end up the SAME way! How can you stay “in love” with someone when you are suddenly forced back to real life and can’t see each other for 4 or more months?? It’s just a ridiculous idea and the fact that people keep creating the shows and other people KEEP watching is mind boggling to me. It’s like watching the movie Titanic more than once.

Kenneth, Miranda had a good figure, she wasn’t a slutty stick insect, she had a good figure and she wasn’t in the slightest bit overweight. Get a life idiot.
Miranda has lots of back fat. It was bouncing all over the place when they had to do that hula contest for Antonio. Fat is fat. There is no defense to fat.
Men want thin like Brooke. They won’t get fat later on.

Brooke reminds me of a high school cheerlearder who strives to be the most popular girl in school. She’s got old fashioned values that don’t jibe with being on a VH1 reality dating show. She should have known it was doomed from the start.
MIranda had a better personality and wasn’t all about winning. You could tell he liked her better but his ignorant male instinct led him to choose the one with the better body. He then realized he wasn’t happy with her and dumped her. He’s too shallow to have a meaningful relationship and too whipped by his mother.

Okay, my opinion in this whole stupid matter is that Brooke is far better looking. She has a natural beauty to herself and I agree, a better body. Personality wise, Miranda wins over Brooke. Antonio chose the woman he was more attracted to physically. That is obvious. Antonio was not looking for something serious. This was just for fun and for t.v.
Antonio didn’t want an oinker so he chose the hottie. Brooke is a total babe. I cannot wait to see her in Maxim in the near future.
i think it is sad that the people that are really on these shows looking for love and aren’t a 10 on the looks pole don’t even have a chance!! i think that the ones that do these shows should have to ware a blind fold so they have to get to know the real people that they have to chose from and not the fake outer person!!! i think that that is what is wrong with half if not more that the world today…people say that they are looking for TRUE LOVE but the truth is all that they are looking for is what they think is true beauty…but they are only looking on the outside and that is why they keep having part 1 and then part 2 and 3 and 4! true beauty and true love is not something you find on the outside and unfortiontaly

A thump on the head to Kenneth. Miranda is NOT fat. All men do not want a size 0. Miranda lives in New York and does not have the weather of sunny California year round. With all of that said, maybe you like a size 0 and nothing bigger. Some men like women who are more shaped like Marilyn Monroe, some men like women more shaped along the lines of the body builder looking girl Jen with the short blonde hair, some men like big fake boobs as in Christi’s shape. Men like different shapes on women. You don’t speak for all men; THANK God! You’re a blazing idiot and most likely don’t have a clue about life. Antonio Sabato, Jr. was back in the 1990s a very successful model for Calvin Klein. He was very popular in acting after he landed a role in the daytime drama General Hospital. Since then he has done many acting projects. You just don’t see him on the movie theatre billboards and that is actually more by choice than not. He’s won many acting acheivement awards, you just don’t see him at the Oscars. He’s not into the Hollywood hype A-list lifestyle like the partiers and people like Paris Hilton are. He has 2 children and is very family oriented. He’d rather spend a casual evening with his kids and family than jet setting around Hollywood. He comes from a family with a very strong European & Italian background. He was born and raised in Italy until he was 12. European families are very close, and traditional Italian men are very close to their mothers, and take Mom’s input in their lives as golden advice. My guess is that you are probably under 21? You’d have to do some research on him to find out about his movies. He plays a villian very well and convincing. And his chisled Italian look is very attractive to some women, he is a 37 year old man, not a boy.
She’s fat. Ok. I’m a woman, and I know. She’s fat. Accept it. She loves her chicken, biscuits and fried fast foods. She’s chomping on fries, burgers and lapping up the gravy. The broad was pretty but most chunky women have pretty faces. I thought she was a better choice, because she looks like the everyday woman, but this is TV and the ratings expect thin women. Maybe if she would work out and do some hand weights and work on her overall figure that would turn her flab into fab. Tighten it up a bit. That would be a huge improvement. I like food like the next woman. and her chest was hanging down to her knee caps, she needed more tape and more victoria secret push up bras. I know about these things, I have own a bra too. I’m a size 6 and if I don’t work out and tighten, I’ll get flabby too. I’d like to get down to a size 2, but I like fried chicken strips too, just like her.
That isn’t the only issue with these shows. the other issue is race. I’ve never seen a Black or Latina win any man’s heart. No matter how pretty they are. They’ve never even gotten close. I don’t even know why they even throw in a few of them every now in then. The man is never going to pick them. Now those are the ladies who don’t stand a snowballs chance in Hell. They are just there to spice up the look of the show, but the man is never going to pick them. Ever. They need to give the men a questionnaire to see if they even like black or latinas, so these women won’t waste their time and look like fools.
I agree. She was overweight. and her chest was sagging. and Antonio is washed up. He looks terrible. I mean, do a show, get on CSI or something. Become marketable to a nice young woman. Stop living off your royalities and savings. or whatever. go back to soaps. at least he’d have a job. I don’t like how he treated some of those women. Im content, happy, healthy …and believe it or not, I dont eat chicken and bisuits I eat mainly fish, chicken, veggies and whole grains in moderation—-and shocker…I work out and I run 20 miles a week and I feel greeatttt!! physically and emotionally!
Umm I am happy she is still true to herself. And for the people who are mad at her for saying she was there for exposure…well here’s the truth…everybody on reality t.v are on for exposure of some sort…even the celebrities….they may or may not truly be there 4 love…because u can’t find true love in such situations.
