Usually, finale episodes of the Housewives franchise tend to be a somewhat boring send off, but that definitely was not the case with the Real Housewives of Orange County season finale.
We saw Tamra and her husband Simon Barney reach a blowing point in a fight, unlike any that has ever been on reality TV. If there were any viewers doubting the authenticity of this show, that blow-up should be evident enough that this is all too real. Below is a rather long recap and mostly my thoughts on the stars of the show.
Tamra and Simon – I have to start off with these two. Wow is an understatement. Simon’s behavior on last night’s episode was beyond controlling, it was down right creepy and emotionally abusive. Tamra is without saying one of my least favorite housewives, but watching last night’s show really made me feel very sympathetic towards her. This woman was very afraid of her husband. The way he kept trying to “make-up” with her when they got out of the limo was hard to watch. Add on his passive aggressive hostility, and this man is truly a piece of work. My question is has he always been this way? Because this Simon we’re seeing was not the same one Bravo showed us the past couple of seasons. He is truly awful. A while back, I heard a very nasty rumor about Simon and something he allegedly did to Tamra, I chose not to write about this because it is a very big accusation to throw out there, and not something I would want to put out there unless I was 100% certain. I will tell you something, watching him last night, I will say I believe this rumor. I’m not going to say what it is, but you readers are smart, and I know you can figure out the most awful thing a man can do to his wife, other than cheating.
Lynne and daughters – Just when you think Lynne couldn’t become a worse parent, she manages to prove us wrong. This woman is so out of it that she couldn’t even tell her own underage daughters were drunk. Any good parent would have been mortified and humiliated by the behavior of her daughters, but now our darling Lynne. She was more worried about how she looked. She really needs to snap out of it and come back to planet earth. I however felt some sympathy for Alexa yesterday when she mentioned being tired of everyone bringing up their eviction. Kids can be mean, and I’m sure going to school and having the entire world know your business has to be difficult for any teenager. Alexa is the reason why I’m a bit against the housewives putting their children on this show. It’s just not healthy to have the whole world know every intimate detail about them. From what I read recently, Alexa has dropped out of school and is now being home schooled by Lynne. Yes you read that right. And how sweet and mature was it of Kara Keough to comfort Alexa last night?
Gretchen and Slade – Moving on to these two. Gretchen made a comment last night that really threw me off a bit. She called Slade “a great catch.” For some reason, I felt like that comment said a lot about her. Not saying that Slade is a loser, but to call him a “great” catch at this point and time is definitely a stretch. And then looking back on her past choices in men, mainly the loser known as Jay Photoglou, it all made sense. This woman must have some self esteem/self-worth issues, and perhaps some daddy issues. I’m guessing daddy didn’t hug her enough when growing up or something. She also strikes me as one of those women that doesn’t like to be single and therefore refuses to be single, thus dating anything anyone that comes her way. Before this season started, I suspected her relationship with Slade was fake, but after watching this season, it seems the relationship is all too real, which makes it all the more puzzling.

Alexis and Jim – Yeah these two have been very controversial this season, and I’m well aware a lot of readers do not like her, which is understandable. When the season first started, I was certain I wasn’t going to like Alexis, especially after this story detailing her first divorce came out. But as the season went along, I actually started to really like Alexis. Why you might ask? Well mainly because she seemed to be a genuinely nice and sweet person. Yes she might be a bit hypocritical and superficial, but for the most part, she was a nice person. Her major flap this season was the confrontation with the lady she accused of hitting on Jim. I personally felt her confrontation with Vicki was much needed, whether or not Vicki’s daughter was there. As a commenter pointed out last week, Vicki herself admitted she brought her sick daughter along on the trip in hopes it would lead to the other housewives not confronting her. I actually feel some sympathy for Alexis because I do believe she is a controlling marriage with a man who sometimes puts her down. Did she marry Jim for money? Who knows, but she does appear to truly love him and unfortunately can’t see just how controlling he is.
Vicki and Donn – Oh Vicki Vicki Vicki. I know a lot of people like her now and think she’s now this wonderful woman. I however am not so convinced. Was she nicer to her husband this season? Yes, but at the end of the day, I still saw the same ol Vicki from the previous 4 seasons. Gotta love how she threw her good friend Jeana under the bus during the beginning of the season regarding the money issue. I just think she’s a mean human being who treats others badly. I also don’t think she’ll ever change, nor do I think she’s capable of changing.
With that said, no matter what we all think of these housewives, they all have redeeming qualities about them. For example, it was very sweet watching Vicki comfort Tamra last night, and being there for her. This season of the OC was a good one, a little too long in my opinion, but still good. It was nice seeing the former housewives last night as well, and their families.
TELL US – SO THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS BUT I’M VERY INTERESTED TO READ WHAT YOU ALL THINK ABOUT THE FINALE EPISODE AND THIS SEASON OVERALL.

Rhonda, Thanks for the link
Lord, Gretchen just works my last nerve, she is so freakin’ annoying to me. Her and that piece of work Slade, their are so freakin’ disgusting.
I liked the Blind Side too and hope Sandra Bullock wins. Precious was kind of hard for me to watch. I sure hope that one isn’t a true story.
I think it would be funny to query each of the Housewives and their(current) significant others on two things:
1) what do YOU think you do for a living?
2) what do the VIEWERS think you do for a living?
I could not watch Precious. The commercials alone were too upsetting.
Dyana,
Oh then you will really enjoy that link!
Heckyl and Jeckyl have alot of nerve calling out Lynn about her kids drinking problem when they show up plastered for every event they go to. That Vegas hotel promo will probably be their last since Gretchen couldn’t even remember the name of the place and Slade had to interject with the names in such an obvious manner to show that it was a paid appearance.
H&J are on the Millionairre Matchmaker w/ a bit part on her radio show. It’s the one w/ that disgusting Jason ‘Gummy Bear’ Davis, the ambiguosly gay heir and brother of sweaty Brandon Davis. I can’t decide which pair is more revolting.
Re: Oscar Night
I am so upset with ABC-TV in New York. They have turned off their station because of disputes with Cablevision.
How nice! I’ve been waiting for the Oscars for a month (it also means to me that spring is in sight). How convenient to pull the plug on Oscar night!
Ladies (and Gentlemen) if you could, I would appreciate any intriguing moments at the Oscar. Thank you bunches!
Lynne and her family are one hot mess…..there just aren’t even words for how screwed up they are.
I think Vicki is completely classless the way she slams Alexis repeatedly. Vicki is the person who is wrong but as usual takes no accountability for her rude behavior. Vicki only likes people who are doormats and take her crap.
Laurai Waring seems to have this weird obsession with Slade….why does she care? I heard that life with Georgy might not be so grand after all so maybe she just couldn’t hide her misery.
Gretchen & Slade are odd, I am not sure what she is doing with him but at least she is a nice person who actually works and has a work ethic.
Tamra, good God this woman is a joke. She tried over playing it as the victim, I am not buying it. Simon is a jerk, Tamra is a jerk…..they are perfect for each other. I truly feel sorry for their kids having such trash as parents.
Jeana and her daugther are a class act…….how can you not love Kara? Love that girl, Jeana definitely did a good job raising her.
Alexis and Jim, another strange situation. Alexis has grown on me and I really like her. It is obvious she is a genuine and honest person with good intentions. Her husband is a first class jerk so I am just not sure how she puts up with him.
Help Me Rhonda!
Yes, weren’t those paper dolls a hoot!!!
And I L.o.v.e.d his descriptions of Jesus Barbies clothing – can’t remember for sure, but something like a Star Trek outfit and another was confessional clothing – haha
I thought she looked like some sort of space-age choir member.
Great to read your posts – lots of laughs!
~Scarlette Begonia
@ Rebecca…the monologue was the best..George C. did not look happy! That makes my day…now throw in Sean Penn and it will be the best party EVER!! xoxo
Overall, this was a good season for the OC.
I think Vicki made a real attempt to make her marriage work and treat her poor husband better, but I agree with Reality Tea… the woman is just plain mean at heart and I don’t foresee any great changes coming in her personality, unless it’s for the worse.
I’ve sided with Tamra ever since Gretchen made such a big deal of blaming Tamra for purposely getting her drunk at last season’s dinner party at Tamra’s house. She should have taken responsibility for her own behavior. No one forced her to guzzle down the drinks.
I’ve never been a fan of Gretchen’s, but her big love affair with Slade was over-the-top when it comes to bad taste and terminally rotten judgement. She’s in a temporary position to find a gentleman of quality, and she chooses Slacker-Slade.
I felt kind of sorry for Lynne when she was the new girl on the block. Now, I see her as a self-obsessed narcissist who is being raised by her two clueless (not their fault) daughters and her woebegone husband. I find no redeeming qualities within this woman. None. I’m beginning to think that Lynne and NJ housewife “Beverly” should become best friends.
Alexis completely lost me when she decided to announce that she’s a Christian and later proceeded to conduct, in public, the most rambling, senseless, self-centered, long, uncomfortable, and selfish prayer I’ve ever had the misfortune to get to hear and witness. And I say “get to” because I wasn’t about to change the channel and miss a single idiotic word. And the reactions of the others while she was rambling about the parting of the wrong sea by the wrong guy was priceless and one of the best scenes of the season.
Things can only get better (the word “better” being left up to one’s choice of interpretation) next season!
I think these women are an embarassment to, well, all women.
Vicki: Although I love Donn and her kids, she wasn’t fooling anyone this season with her “holier than thou” act. She is still mean and immature, like all the other housewives. She needs to put all of her coto insurance money to good use, like hiring a stylist. That yellow dress she wore at the finale looks like it came from conway and it was completely inappropriate for her body type and age.
Lynne: She is a horrible excuse for a mother. Yeah, I said it. She is not mentally present for anything, unless she is shopping. Does anyone else notice that? She doesn’t mother her children and she doesn’t care about her finances. She is just an all around waste.
Tamra: She has some soul searching to do. Yes, Simon is creepy, that cannot be denied, however, she herself was not a good wife. She has always seemed more concerned with partying than behaving like a wife and mother her age should. And we already know she is a backstabber.
Alexis: She is scary. Her hypocrisy scares me. She should go back to her midwest town and live her mutant looking mother; maybe there she can get some of her values back.
Gretchen: She looked a little busted this season, IMO. Her face is started to age and look drawn. Her and Slade are made for each other. That’s really all I have to say about that. I find her boring.
I agree Jamie. Not only are they an embarrassment, they are ALL alcoholics. Every last one one the show is.
Vicki: She is constantly bragging about her business b/c it’s all she has. She wasn’t blessed in the genes dept. but she still tries to compete for the media spotlight w/ the other women regardless. It’s become apparent she missed out hanging w/ the frat boys in college, so she is trying to make up for it by crashing her sons parties and sweating on club kids. Disgusting
Lynn: This woman never wanted to be a parent. She had those kids to hook Frank into having to take care of
them all. She takes no responsibility for her part in
their, disastrous financial situation. It’s Frank’s birthri
to take care of her and if he doesn’t, he is a disposable
failure. She’s right out of mind if she thinks another
man would ever think of getting involved w/ her. She’s
an alcoholic absentee mother w/ 2 rotten kids to sho
for it.
Tamra: Another woman who should have never hadkids. She spent all season stabbing people in theback. I give her credit for finding Gretchen anintolerable whore and not covering for her shiftybehavior. Gretchen was trying to act like Mother Teresa and she got knocked off of her pedestal, hard.
Alexis: This birdbrain is so ashamed of her redneck upbringing. You can run, but you can’t hide. She’s a redneck living in Newport w/ a mafioso husband w/ a criminal past. There’s nothing to admire about her miserable life. If she thinks anyone is buying her christian BS she’s crazy. Loved the prayer also. ‘a yoeman’s dinner?’ Hahahahahaaaha!
Gretchen: I would bet my last dollar she was the slut in high school that got passed around among the jocks and had no friends. She has no clue how to relate to other women, or how to act in social situations. As soon as someone in the group starts getting some attention, she lets out that obnoxious, loud laugh. Beneath the false bravado is an insecure, jealous, frightened, disturbed, coked up daddy’s girl. Her male counterpart, Slade, will help her spiral down w/ her drug addiction until mommy and daddy step in and throw her anorexic ass in a rehab facility.
Vicki- Very needy. Emotional. High expectations of people,no tolerance for slackers.Good Mother.
Tamra- Tries too hard to please, in the mean time plays both sides of the fence, not good. Needs to work on herself to become a better person.
Lynne and Frank- re: Cheech and Chong ,Back away from the bong. Enough said.
Gretchen- Think for yourself. Slade is your biggest problem right now, he has not helped you he has hurt you. Needs to work on herself to become a better person just like Tamra, and btw. get rid of Slade.
Alexis and Jim- Hypocrites.
i think you hit the nail on the head in the write up. i think both alexis and tamara both married thier older husbands more for money then love. they are your basic trophy wives. tamara prob had no problem putting up with it until the well ran dry and simon is loosing his money. i’m sure alexis will notice it when jim’s well runs dry to. simon and jim were nothing but controlling spoied rich guys. i think you missed the boat on slade. the guy is a scumbag who trys to mooch and bilk his way into the housewives. the guy doesn’t work and owes back child support. even laurie whos fairly honest said the guy is a scumbag. you were right on with vicki and lynne. wow lynn is a piece of work. her and her 2 ugly kids are the worst to watch. the grusome twosome just run amuck and lynne is oblivious to it. those 2 kids needed a good old fashion ass whupping a few years back to straighten them out. the damage is done now with those 2 seamonkeys. could you even imagine them growing up and being parents. vicki is just a mean and bossy person. even her kids say that about her. her daughter has an ass the size of montana, and her son just goes with the flow. all in all this show is great to watch. it’s so funny. it’s amazing how many people are willing to go on tv and make complete asses of themselves for 15 minutes of fame. look what you started jerry springer lol.
I will honestly say I’m not sure what I think of any of the women. I think they, like all of us, have a good side and a bad side. Unless I were to meet them in person, I can’t make accurate judgements of them based on what we see on TV. But, here are my judgements, non-the-less.
Vicki: She truly loves her husband and the show was able to let her see just how badly she was treating him. She is a good mother. She is a bit childish when it comes to friendships (we saw this last season when she ganged up against Gretchen with Tamra).
Tamra: She likes to have fun and Simon has not allowed her to be herself. She can be a backstabber and enjoys a certain amount of drama.
Gretchen: She seems like a good friend, but tries too hard to be that perfect person sometimes. Not sure her concerns for her friends are always genuine or if they are just to make herself look like a caring person. She needs to dump Slade!
Lynne: I felt sorry for her last season when everyone was a little mean to her and called her ditzy. But I could see just what they were talking about this season! She seems really out of it at times and so does Frank. I can’t STAND her bratty daughters. That whole family is boring.
Alexis: Hypocritical and self-absorbed. I think she truly wants to be a good person though, and is. Jim is pretty controlling. She needs to step up the parenting and quit claiming that her job is being a mother all day when she has 2 nannies!
Vicky – Super driven, hard worker, self-made woman. Downfall – Doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut. You can’t speak to people in a bragging and condecending way and expect them not to hate you and talk about you. Also dresses horribly inappropriately.
Tamra – Major narcassist. Willing to embarrass her children for life for air time. Another age-inappropriate dresser.
Lynn – Major narcassist extraordinare. Only really cares about her body. Emotionally absent most of the time and unable (or unwilling) to parent. God help those daughters in becoming decent people. Yet another age-inappropriate dresser.
Gretchen – Gold-digging and needs to always be the center of attention. Give her ten years when the looks and body start to fade – won’t be able to handle it. Slade, the opportunist, will take her for a major ride and then ditch her for the bigger, better deal. Great dresser and great hair.
Alexis – Gold digger and hyprocrite. Needs to get out of the OC fast before she has completely sold her soul (oops – too late). Great dresser except for the boobs-out outfits.
What about Frank in all of this. I know lynne is a bad mother but if you heard his comment when lynne asked about the girls he said oh they will be ok they are teenagers. he was in the same limo as lynne and did nothing about them drinking either. He turns more of a blind eye to this than Lynne. Also, they have to get a shrink to talk to their daughter. That is sickening.
Simon Barney voted “America’s Worst Husband”! http://bit.ly/9s1w0A
So deserves it!
I have no idea why Alexis is on this show. She added nothing and I understand getting implants but when they are the size of bowling balls I have to wonder
It is incorrect to assume that Lynne just doesn’t see what her kids are doing. She sees everything but if she reacted, it would be too much work for Lynne and she would have to spend time on someone other than herself. Parenting is work, not fun and not about her.
If anyone watched the episodes when Laurie first met Slade and Jo it was obvious that Laurie had her eyes on her next meal ticket. Remember when she met Slade and asked him if he “has a brother”? Why is it that Slade is so horrible for “dating” Laurie and yet no one judges Laurie for hoping into bed with Jo’s Slade when they broke up for 5 minutes??
The worst husband moments this season are when Simon tells everyone who does not agree with him that they “are not listening.” and when Jim changes his order to a crab cake to make fun of his poor wife for thinking surf and turf meant only lobster. My prediction is that Jim and Alexis are the next to filing bankruptcy. Short sale of house, etc.
I have to say i enjoyed the season finale, pretty entertaining all around. Lynne and Frank were probably so embarassed watching themselves this season, they really dropped the ball on so many levels.I only hope that seeing themselves the way others do will open thier eyes. They need to do something about the girls, QUICK! before something really bad happens.
I think Alexis was a great addition to the show this year. There arent many women like her, she puts her husband first and i think alot of people dont understand that. I hate that so many people dislike her but i guess thats what makes the world go round. i hope she stays for many more seasons though.
i look forward to the reunuion show tommorow!
I have watched the Housewives shows since the beginning of the Orange County’s 1st season. The 1st New Jersey season I REALLY seriously said “Enough is Enough” however I will give OC another chance and if they are ok I will watch the Housewives shows again !! NO WAY IN HELL !! This season of OC has made me sick at my stomach with the phony idiot fake dumbass way ALL of these IDIOTS act. The “straw that broke the camel’s back” was when they were at the table “going at” Vicki with all they have got she got up walked out they followed brought her back and then they all sat there and held hands and prayed !! OMG HOW FRICKIN FAKE !!!! with the exception of Alexis I have NEVER and I mean NEVER seen any of these women go to or even near a church !! I say it now and I mean it this time …… NO MORE HOUSEWIVES SHOWS PERIOD !!!!!!
I agree with pretty much everything that you’ve said. The most disturbing relationship is that of Alexis and Jim in my opinion. It’s almost bizarre watching her front like she wants to be with/under him all the time. I think that he bought himself a wife and treats her like the necklace he bought her, 7 carats but property nonetheless.
Goodbye Gretch and Lexi….go far far away!
