Danielle Staub Is the Latest Former Reality Star To Announce A Tell-Book; Plus, Our Note To Disgruntled Former Reality Stars

Another day, another former reality TV star announces a tell-all book about the show they previously starred on.  This week it’s Danielle Staub’s turn.  The former Real Housewives of New Jersey star took to Twitter to announce that she’s writing a tell-all about RHONJ.

Danielle Tweeted, “I’m breaking my silence And writing my tell all including the “Reality of #RHONJ” the impact on mine and my family’s life’s @Andy @bravotv.”

First, let me laugh for a moment at any reality star claiming to “break their silence.”  When are they ever “silent” during or after their stint on TV? I can’t think of too many who have been.  Second, I wonder if Danielle’s new book will mention her alleged racist rant that was leaked to the media this week? Her rep denies it and her daughter Tweeted about it… (edited to add: both daughters are Tweeting in her defense)

Also, let me remind you that this is Danielle’s second book.  Unless she had some amazing adventures in the past five years, I’m not biting.  It’s likely going to be more of the same things Bobby Ciasuli and every other former reality star had to say after leaving.  Horrible editing! Evil producers!  Manipulation! Faked scenes!  My life was ruined!  <Insert Vicki Gunvalson Snore Here….>

Dear former reality TV stars, we aren’t going to give up our money to you to read some rambling pages about “shocking producer manipulation” or how reality TV ruined your life and nobody got to see the REAL you!  You were just fine with being a part of the madness and fakery when you were cashing those checks (whether they were yours or your significant other’s) and enjoying the attention from viewers.

And let me clarify here, if the former reality stars write memoirs about their whole lives, I might read them.  If you’ve lived an interesting life or open up about things nobody knew about you, (like your time in prison..) I might check it out, even if it includes a tidbit or two about your painful experience on xyz show.  But if the sole focus is to EXPOSE the EVIL of xyz show, I’ll pass.

Since I’m ranting, I’m also fed up with former reality stars regretting the shows they did five years ago.  Don’t email us, demanding all mentions of your name, photos, etc be removed from old posts, acting like our site did you wrong simply because NOW you regret having done reality TV and NOW you are a respectable mommy who wants to wipe all evidence of your trashy behavior on the “please date me, random z-list celeb” show.  You participated, you got paid, it’s out there, OWN IT.

To the authors of these “tell-all” books, if you’re done with reality TV – either because you weren’t asked back for another season or because you decided it wasn’t for you, just MOVE ON.  Chalk it up as a life experience and be done with it.   Stop trying to get the fans and viewers worked up and outraged over your bombshell revelations because you were just fine with us not knowing the “secrets” when you were happily filming and signing those contracts agreeing to x, y, and z.  Most of us realize what goes on behind the scenes, trust me.  We still watch.  We still love it.  We’re not idiots, which is why we won’t buy your books about blowing the lid off the ‘truth’ of your particular reality show.  It’s not shocking.  And we aren’t gonna give you our money just because the network stopped giving you theirs.

And one last note for the networks and producers: please get better, iron-clad contracts in place going forward.

TELL US – WILL YOU BUY TELL-ALL BOOKS BASED SOLELY ON EXPOSING CERTAIN SHOWS’ BEHIND-THE-SCENES DIRT? WILL YOU BUY DANIELLE’S BOOK? Cast your votes below!
