Draya Michele

On last night’s episode of Basketball Wives: L.A., Jackie played puppet master while Draya tried to keep her in check. Malaysia previewed her jewelry line, and Gloria contemplated her upcoming (maybe? maybe not?) marriage to Matt. Laura did her best to dodge Jackie’s tirades, and Imani…well, she showed up for the last five minutes.

Jackie is confiding in Draya about how Laura has been talking badly about Jackie behind her back. Given that the ladies are all at Laura’s charity event, Jackie doesn’t want to start anything, but she wants Laura to know she’s on to her. Malaysia arrives and can tell that Jackie is upset about…something.

Of course, with Jackie’s ever changing personalities, the ladies are probably used to that. Laura praises Jackie on her outfit, and Jackie politely accepts her compliment with a pointed, “Thanks, you don’t think it makes me look pregnant, do you?” There are a few more pregnancy snarks from Jackie who is pulling up her shirt to show her belly, and Laura looks a tad uncomfortable while the other girls just look plain confused. Apparently, Laura has been dogging Jackie’s fashion sense, weight, and hair all over town. Um, what’s that whole pot/kettle/those who live in glass houses saying? I doubt we’ll ever see either of these ladies on a best dressed list.

It appears there are some pretty nasty rumors swirling about one of the ladies of Basketball Wives LA, and it seems VH1′s editing department is performing quite the cover-up should the accusations prove to be true. And if the rumors aren’t true, you can always sue the source…just ask Miami’s Evelyn Lozada!

Um, perhaps the apology we saw Draya Michele give Laura Govan on last week’s episode of Basketball Wives LA may not have been for simply talking some smack years ago. Reach Around Radio exclusively reports that Draya may have gotten a little too close with Laura’s baby daddy 4x Gilbert Arenas…at the stadium no less. Apparently VH1 used it’s editing magic to make it appear Draya was saying she was sorry for gossiping about Laura and her children when she she was actually apologizing for bopping Laura’s man.

Reach Around Radio reports Gilbert is not denying these allegations. In fact, he claims that he even passed off Draya to a couple of friends, including Deshawn Stevenson. Classy. The radio hosts reveal that Gilbert may even be airing this dirty laundry on the reunion. If this story is true, you have to wonder why VH1 is skewing the program to make Draya seem like the ultimate victim. I am in no way saying that the women have any right to gang up on or bully any other cast mate. However, if Draya is guilty of diddling one of the other lady’s meal tickets, it’s a bit more understandable why she would be negatively on their radar. If this story is false, Draya may have quite the defamation claim…

And speaking of lawsuits, Miami Basketball Wife football fiancee Evelyn Lozada is suing internet site Media Take Out for publishing a story in September which questioned her fidelity to fiancee Chad Ochocinco. Well, it didn’t actually question her fidelity…it flat out called her a cheater. The article, entitled “Evelyn Lozada from the Basketball Wives was CREEPING… with one of Chad’s BALLER FRIENDS!!! (Explosive Details),” accused the reality starlet of sleeping with her man’s best friend (and fellow VH1 media whore darling) Terrell Owens.

Evelyn’s lawsuit alleges that over 250,000 readers viewed the article causing her “emotion distress” (huh?) and damaging her reputation as both a career woman and a public figure/”television personality.” Evelyn is seeking $15,000 in damages, as well as additional money for court costs and interest. The article is still available on the site, but now simply reads, “As a courtesy to Evelyn, we have removed this article.” Well wasn’t that kind of them…

A new episode of Basketball Wives: L.A. airs tonight at 8PM ET on VH1.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST DRAYA? DOES THIS CHANGE YOUR OPINION OF HER ON THE SHOW? DO YOU THINK EVELYN HAS A CASE AGAINST MEDIA TAKEOUT OR IS THIS JUST AN ATTEMPT TO STAY RELEVANT?

Last night’s episode of Basketball Wives: L.A. was just a whole bunch of lunch. The ladies were meeting up left and right to gossip over whoever wasn’t invited to restaurant…and nine times out of ten, that person was Draya.

Imani and Malaysia meet for lunch. Draya has reached out to Malaysia, and Imani teases that the two will be new BFFs. Malaysia is unsure as to why Draya wants to meet up with her. Sure, she was compassionate about her situation, but that hardly means she wants to be buddy-buddy. Imani thinks it is Draya’s way of being manipulative.

Gloria heads to an audition for Cedric the Entertainer’s new show. Her first reading is dubbed “a practice round,” and Gloria says it’s hard to act as if she’s flirting with her crush when she is reading with an older woman. She is praised on her second go-round, but I don’t know if this is the kind of publicity Cedric the Entertainer was hoping for with his new endeavor.

Following the ambush on the recent episode of Basketball Wives LA, led by her costars, Draya Michele is now speaking out on doing the show plus the way she was bullied treated by said costars.

Below are excerpts from Draya’s interview with Sister 2 Sister -

Tracy: Has the show been what you expected?
Draya: It’s pretty much worse than I expected only because I’m always the topic of the discussion and I really didn’t expect to play such a major role

Tracy: Do you think they haven’t warmed to you because you’re not a wife?
Draya: I think they don’t have a respect for me because I’m not with any basketball players. I don’t think it’s about not being a wife. It’s only two people that’s married; everybody else is just technically a babymama.

Tracy: Your co-star Imani Showalter called you “worthless.” She apologized, but why do you think she and some of the others have such a strong and negative opinion of you?
Draya: They say a lot of things, but I’ve heard worse things from people who are more important. They’re not that important to me, but the things that they say are not that important. Everybody has dirt. Everybody has issues. If you can throw stones at somebody else, there’s obviously something going on with you. I don’t care to know about anybody’s personal life. I’m in my business.

Tracy: You’ve said on the show that you’re going to stop being nice. When?
Draya: You can expect a lot of things. Just when you think it’s safe, it’s kinda not again. I can’t fly off the hinges at first … If I fight with everybody, there’s no more me. I know what I’m doing. I’m playing my part the way that I’m supposed to. I don’t kiss nobody’s butt.

On twitter, a fan asked Draya what the other ladies would have to talk about on the show if she wasn’t on it, she responded: “Menopause !!!! Lol” Ouch.

And while Draya, real name Andraya M. Howard, maintained on the show that the police report detailing how she neglected her son was fake, the reporter who first broke the news back in January insists the report was absolutely the real deal. Draya even went as far as to claim the reporter lost his job for doing the story — which also appears to be false. Below is a statement given by Philadelphia journalist Steve Henshaw -

“This item was published in the 9/16/11 edition of the Eagle about Howard’s court case. The article I wrote was based entirely on the police report (the affidavit of probable cause) that I had in hand. After Howard’s mother called to complain that the story was inaccurate, I called the police officer and he said the story was very accurate. Howard’s entering ARD status is tantamount to a guilty plea. Why would a judge order her to 40 hours of family counseling if he/she didn’t believe that what the police officer reported he saw/heard was true? Andraya Howard shows her character when she accuses the police and the paper of making up facts after she has under oath before a judge accepted the punishment.”

The original article written by Steve was published back in January. A new article was written in September, which revealed Draya was in fact sentenced for the child neglect case involving her son. Below is an excerpt -

“Howard was accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, which allows first-time offenders to clear their record after serving probation. She was sentenced in Berks County Court to two years of probation and ordered to attend family counseling and perform 40 hours of community service on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child.”

According to the original report (which is still up on the website), Draya — a former stripper — was arrested back in January of this year after her 7-year-old son called 911 at about 2 a.m. and told dispatchers he was home alone. He told a Patrolman he called his mother’s cell phone about 20 times to find out where she was. She said she was at a tanning salon and would be home soon.

Cops revealed the apartment looked like it had been ransacked, with women’s undergarments scattered throughout the living room. A small dog was in a cage, and dog feces and dog urine were in several places in the apartment. Cops witnessed Draya’s son getting a TV dinner from the freezer, standing on the counter and putting it into the microwave. Draya’s mom was then given custody of her son.

So there you have it folks! It appears Draya lied on the show about a reporter “faking” a police report. Plus why would anyone or any journalist for that matter go through the process of falsifying a police report as that’s a pretty serious offense. Not that this excuses the behavior of some of Draya’s costars or anything.

As for Draya, she maintains she loves her son very much. While the episode aired on Monday night, she tweeted: “Of course im going to cry. I’m a mother. This involves my child. I will cut, steal, kill for him.” Below are some photos of Draya with her son Kniko -

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON DRAYA’S INTERVIEW AND THE POLICE REPORT BEING REAL? DOES THIS CHANGE YOUR VIEW OF HER OR THE CONFRONTATION BY THE LADIES?

Dare I say these women are rivaling their Miami counterparts? Last night’s Basketball Wives: L.A. was a flurry of pot stirring and dirt digging with a heaping helping of bullying. Geez…what are these women hoping to teach their children?

The fight between Laura and Draya isn’t nearly as dramatic as the previews promised, although both women end up on the mat. After the cage match, Draya feels a weird vibe, as everyone is being light and friendly when clearly Laura was on a vendetta against her. Not wanting to tempt fate, a chipper Draya calls it a day. The other ladies are amazed at how unfazed she seems, not to mention she didn’t back down at all during the match. Laura just looks at what happened as another day, another mixed martial arts cage fight. She says that if she had wanted Draya to feel her “raft,” Draya totally would have been blown away by her “raft.” Her “raft” is frightening. What is frightening is that she is confusing an inflatable water apparatus with “wrath.” Good gracious.

On last night’s Basketball Wives: L.A., Imani and Laura need action, Malaysia designs baby bling, and the sisters Govan can’t wait for Draya to get in the ring…literally.

After the wedding, everyone heads to the clerb to celebrate with the happy couple. Gloria remarks that she thinks Jackie and the girls are taking it hard that Draya was a no-show. Um, why? They all seem to pretty much dislike her, but whatevs. They can’t focus on that when Imani starts crying to Jackie about how lonely she feels and how she’s given up on love. Crying to the bride after her wedding. Sounds like someone is trying to steal some wedding thunder, and now Imani is the center of attention. No one seems to mind, though, and the ladies group-hug it out.

On last night’s episode of Basketball Wives LA, it was the wedding of the year for Jackie and Doug Christie. Literally, as they marry every. flipping. year. Gloria’s players get waxed on the court, while Draya just gets waxed, and Imani forges a friendship with Malaysia.

Laura Govan and Jackie Christie meet for an afternoon cocktail, because that seems to be the staple gathering for the L.A. wives/pseudo-wives/girlfriends/exes. Jackie admits to Laura that in addition to the fifteen (with one to grow on) weddings she’s had with Doug, she was married three times prior to him. Jackie wants Laura’s self-confidence to grow after her recent split, and she hopes telling her of the three men who walked down the aisle before Doug’s fifteen times will help Laura realize that the right man is out there for her.

As the new season of Basketball Wives LA heats up, we are learning a bit more about the ladies and their pasts. Laura Govan made a splash in the premiere after she attacked fellow cast mate Malaysia Pargo. After the smack down, the two women maturely (shocking!) discussed the situation and vowed to move forward with their friendship. Laura blamed her anger on a bitter break-up with her long time love, Gilbert Arenas.

In a recent interview, Laura opens up about reconciling with her ex, the drama behind the show, and why she’s more than what you see on the VH1 show.  Check out her interview with Essence.com below.

We don’t know much about you except what we read on blogs and see on the show. Who is Laura Govan?

One thing is that I’m a dedicated mom of four. I’ve played basketball all my life. I coached on a college level and I attempted to play overseas, but I was injured. It was time for basketball to end for me. I worked for the Golden State Warriors, which is where I met Gilbert [Arenas], my fiancé. Then I got my masters in Sports Psychology. I was in a masters PhD program but I started having children so I stopped. I’ve had four kids in five years. My youngest is three months old.

You refer to Gilbert as your fiancé. You two are back together?

Yes, we are, and we plan to get married soon. When and where, I don’t know yet. I feel like we’re already married though, ten years, four kids later. People say he’s a mess, and I’m a mess. You know what, we’re each other’s messes. Everybody has breakup and make-up moments. It just so happens that ours is out in the public. You learn to grow. At this point in our lives Gilbert and I have been there, done that; the drama, the chaos. We’re older now, and we’re more mature. Now we’re better parents, and we’re taking the steps to make things better. Regardless of our past, we want our kids to see a good future.

You got a lot of flack for fighting Malaysia on the first episode of “Basketball Wives: L.A.” Looking back, what goes though your mind?

I think it’s horrible. We look uneducated… it was just a really bad look. I feel bad because when you get to know her she’s a good person. On her side, it was a defense situation, and on my end, I was just going through a lot and she happened to push the wrong buttons that day. I feel like had it not been her that provoked me, it might have been someone else. As soon as the altercation ended, there was a little boy there, and I saw my son in him. I just started bawling. That’s when I thought, ‘you know what, I need to go see a counselor.’ I need to start taking steps to take care of myself. For the past five years I’ve had baby after baby. People ask me, ‘do you have postpartum depression?’ I don’t even know what that is. Then the chaos with Gilbert… it’s just been a very chaotic time.

What do you think of the criticism of the “Basketball Wives” franchise?

I think it’s right, to a certain extent. The producers do what they need to for TV. It’s really sad that people want to see us fighting, pulling each other’s hair out and arguing. But you have to pick and take. There’s a lot of good things about us as well, some of us are businesswomen, authors, designers. My sister Gloria is doing a bunch of things. I have a clothing line for after pregnancy. We all have things going outside of what people see for entertainment. I think it’s fair, I think its TV, its entertainment. Don’t go to church talking about it, don’t go watching it for morals, don’t go to church praying for us. [laughs] No, do pray for us. Don’t take it there, it’s just entertainment.

In other Basketball Wives: L.A. news, it has been revealed that Draya Michele isn’t the only cast member with allegedly shady parenting skills. After breaking the story on Draya, MediaTakeOut.com is alleging that cast mate (and pot stirrer) Imani Showalter may have some skeletons of her own in the closet. As you may recall, Imani is having a hard time accepting Draya into the group because of her questionable past.

It’s being reported that when she began dating basketballer Stephen Jackson, Imani told him she only had one child, although in fact she had two children. Apparently Jackson was notorious for dating women with no children, so Imani didn’t want to ruin the potential relationship by revealing that she had multiple children.

According to a source, she had her son live with his father’s family while she pursued a two-year relationship with Jackson before calling off their wedding when he requested she sign a prenuptial agreement. There is no word on whether she regained custody of her son after her relationship crumbled. And she had all those things to say about Draya? It’s a pot/kettle situation if I’ve ever seen one!

A new episode of Basketball Wives: L.A. airs tonight at 8:00 PM ET on VH1.
